Shin splint?

Hi, Im new to the board and my name is David

well I didnt know where to post this so I figured in the general health would do alright. If an admin would like to move it, feel free i just need to get this answered.

I recently was playing basketball and some soccer on friday (about two weeks ago) when i was told by a doctor i was suffering from shin splint. I did some research and thought to myself that it could be shin splint. The next day which was on a sunday, I woke up to see my whole right leg swoll. And by this I mean up right under my knee, my whole shin and some ankle and foot. Thats when i thought the doctor may have been wrong. Now its been two weeks and the swelling has gone down alot. Thanks to my mom who has put warm water on my leg and a lot of wrapping. Now the problem is Im still on crutches and i do move my knee and foot around a bit to keep it from future blood clog you can say. I still have this bump that seems to look like a spider bite on the inside of my right shin that hurts if pressed. Recently little blood has came out and some yellow liquidy stuff may not be pus.My question is what is this bump? and why hasnt it gone down. I feel better every day but the lump just stays there. If you all would like some pictures ask so I may then post them asap.

Thanks

ps: the doctor said it would take three weeks for me to heal, and im on my way to my third week. He also said he was gonna inform me of some exercises for me to do meanwhile and I guess he forgot and never really got to me :(

thanks to everyone who reads this.

Sorry so long people.

thanks.

I just cleaned the infected part with hydrogen peroxide. Yes, I will be watching it very closely. Hopefully I continue to see any improvement. I will also finish the bottle of anti biotic. I just took my oral pill so I will get some rest now. Hopefully I dont have to go to class tomorrow for finals.

I'll keep you posted.

Shin splints should not cause your entire leg to swell up.

Call your doctor's office and tell them what happened since you've been in.

It sounds like it is getting better. Even if the infection is 100% gone, though, it caused injury to your leg, which will now have to heal.

Keep a close eye on it, though, and follow up quickly if it swells again or doesn't continue to heal.

well its pretty weird because when I go out (mandatory for school) i have go use my crutches which i dont apply much pressure on my right leg. I get home and it seems to get inflated every time. I just received a shot of penicillin last night and it looks great, but I will have to wait. Im getting very worried because I start school in january 7. This infection has delayed my right leg from getting better from what just started as a "shin splint". So be careful everyone with these infections they are very powerful.

thanks for your response.

well I woke up today and realized all this blood mixed with what looks like a yellow substance or pus type liquid is pouring drop by drop out of a small cut in my lump. After a while of nothing but cleaning it goes down a lot. I am happy but soon realize I still have very little inside the lump. Isn't quite noticeable as it was so I guess its a very good thing. My question is what do I do now. My doctor called me today and told me to continue taking my pills and get some rest. She said If by Friday morning I don't get better I go see a surgeon. :(

What are some ways for me to get this extra liquid out of my leg. I know I shouldn't squeeze like if it was a pimple but I am getting quite impatient. Sorry i am not a very patient person.

thanks for the reply first of all

and yes, matter fact I will visit him today and hopefully I can get an answer. Everyday I wake up and it seems the bump is becoming slightly smaller. After my visit I will post up what he says.

Ugh HELP again.

Sorry, but my swelling has been going down but when I walk it seems to be accumulating more of that pus and blood liquid. Not much of it but a a good amount to try and drain out. I drained it last night twice. Once at around 5 and then again at 8. Before I went to sleep i noticed it wasn't completely flat because it seems my muscle or something is not allowing it to be completely down. Like if someone bruised me. I was wondering what should I do, keep draining it until everything is gone? I still have about 7 days of antibiotics oral pills left. It looks much better but this swelling is bugging me now.

well Im back from a different doctor and she gave me a infection shot on my thigh, a very strong one. They took my blood from both sides of my arms and gave me some very strong 500 mg anti biotic and some ointment for my leg. She said if I dont get better in 3-4 days which should be around friday then I need to see a surgeon asaP!!!

At that point im worried. :(

ps: i cant feel a small portion on my lower leg just above the ankle. What could that be?

The ointment is ALTABAX and the oral anti biotic is Cephalexin

I just want to say prayer is a very powerful tool so I pray for all who are hurt and myself.

So if you happen to have a chance please pray for all.

I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with an infection, but I'm glad that it sounds like your doctor is on top of things. Definitely watch it, and if it seems to be getting worse, call right away. Finish the bottle of antibiotics even if you feel better. Also, make sure you are eating healthy and sleeping enough so that your body can fight the infection.

well the swelling has gone down and I've been feeling a lot better.

Although i still get a little funny feeling on my foot when I walk im just walking very little.

I recently finished my anti biotics (ten days) but now i still have very little of what seems of yellow substance leak less and less everyday of my infection.

and well it has to be a good sign that I can put pressure on my leg.

My mom said if i dont get better I will get a penicillin shot which I have heard of very good things.

Hopefully that will solve my problem, any suggestions.
