The characterization was taken directly from the source material, but not the story. They introduced Moriarty though in the end (cue sequel!) and Irene Adler was expanded as a character - as Holmes adversary but also kind of a love interest and consort.

Hmmm I never thought of getting DVD's for the features. Just the movie. But usually I get older movies that are cheaper and build my collection that way. I'll at least Netflix it.

I want to get the DVD too, but it looks like there's only one special feature listed for it. Does the Blu-Ray version have more?

Is this movie based on any of the original books? Judging from some of the posts, it sounds like one of the main villians is a female and I can only remember one story (A Scandal in Bohemia) that has a woman as Holmes' adversary

I thought they had some chemistry but it was definitely over shadowed by Holmes/Watson's chemistry and that RM just wasn't up to par with RDJ as well. I did enjoy the scene in his flat when she showed up, but that was mostly him, she was pretty passive in it. her aloofness worked well in that scene and that was about it for me.

saw it today...and loved it so...

Name: Lauren

Age: 21

Where from?: USA

Why did you go to see SH?: For Robert Downey Jr. :thud: love him!

What were you pleasantly surprised by in the film?: the acting...especially by jude law...who i usually don't like...and of course the bromance of holmes/watson :thud:

What did you not like about it?: nothing really....maybe the fact that holmes and watson had love interests....who were they kidding?

 I've also become totally obsessed with RDJ. he's just so damn talented!

haven't watched them yet....just one feature about re-inventing sherlock holmes with rdj and guy ritchie i think

ITA  I hated the character and the acting. I also found chemistry b/w her and RDJ to be lacking. Mayb e it was there and just completely overshadowed by Holmes/Watson

I'll add them to my Netflix. Thanks for the recommendations! I've seen part of Short Cuts and I've seen him in Gothika, Zodiac, Good Night and Good Luck - but all before I really knew about him. So I might revisit.
