Sherlock Holmes [Robert Downy Jr/Jude Law]

Sherlock Holmes: 4/5

I actually really enjoyed it - even though I wonder why martial arts/fighting have to be added to everything :D The action/combat makes it more exciting I guess with some crunchy close up fights and set pieces but how did Holmes know martial arts. He comes across as a Victorian James Bond sort of character - as well as being a brilliant mind and pissed up cokehead and eccentric slob (the villian Lord Blackwood certainly seems like a Bond villain too) and the film tosses in some secret society/conspiracy stuff like something from the Da Vinci Code.
Liked the grimy gothic detail as well.

I saw this a few days ago. Nothing special, the trailers were better than the film, IMO.

That's the trailers for other movies, not Sherlock Holmes.:D

Yep, this film draws more from the books than it does the umpteen Holmes versions over the years. It's actually surprised many people who are just used to the old TV series' and the like.

I loved it:D I liked the new (or rather, old) twist to the Sherlock Holmes character. I have passing familiarity with both the books and the TV series so I loved it.

I was apprehensive, but then went to see it with my Dad who is a huge fan of the books. He loved it, purely because it showed things the books say about Holmes, but have been rarely shown in other film and TV adaptations.

I think a lot of people think Holmes should be some variation on the Basil Rathbone version.

What I do like about this version (and the recent BBC ones) is that they make Watson the character he is supposed to be rather than the bumbling idiot older versions had him become.

I was curious about this film. I have never read a Sherlock Holmes book, so I was also of the thinking that Holmes and Watson in this latest incarnation seemed to be quite removed from their stereotypical characters. So I myself have been pleasantly surprised to learn that those stereotypical characters that we all think of as Watson and Holmes aren't exactly accurate to the books themselves and in this film they are more faithful to how they were written. So I am even more keen to see this film now. I am a big fan of Downey Jr. anyway so I'm very pleased to hear this seems to be going down well. Excellent.

I saw this yest. I loved it. Much better than cliched Avatar and was an exciting, engaging film.
It was the "bromance" btw Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law that really made this film work. Downey in particular was really good!

Not sure what adaptations most people have been seeing until now, but the ones I've seen have been far closer to the source than this. It's just not Holmes at all, whether people like the film or not, that point can't be argued.

This was far more like the Conan Doyle books than all the other films & TV adaptations put together :D

I've never been a fan of Jude Law but he & Robert Downey Jr made a great team and I couldn't believe that this film was made by Guy Ritchie.Definitely his most watchable film :)

I really want to see this. I've never cared for Guy Ritchie's style and cringed when I heard he was doing Sherlock Holmes, but Robert Downey Jr is great and this movie looks fantastic from the trailers/clips. I'm hoping I'll get to see it by the end of next week.
