Shawshank Redemption

God is my Judge

Saw today, and it is fabulous. Acting is great, story is great, music is great, and Morgam Freeman is and always has been ridiculously good- that voice is soo iconic

Tim Robbins is also super in it

Voted best film on IMDB, do you concur?

Shawshank is an okay film but it's overrated in my opinion. The best part was that elderly prisoner trying and failing to adjust to life outside the prison; the rest of it is average.

Its a decent enough film, but massively overrated imo - after all the hype, when I did finally get round to watching it I couldn't help but feel a bit let down.

I was down in that London at the weekend, and in the tube they are advertising a stage version of the film.

I hope it's musical. The scene of Andy crawling through 500 yarRAB of shit would be a great number.

It's a great movie but also seriously overrated by a lot, greatest movie of all time some say, it's not even close to being top ten let alone the best but then I suppose it's all down to personal opinion and all that Jizz Jazz :p

I enjoy it anyway and it's far far better than Darabont's other prison King adaptation The Green Mile.

It's a great film with IMO one of the best endings to anything ever, the brilliant last lines coming straight from the master Stephen King himself.

It IS slightly overrated, though it depenRAB on what types of films you like. Raiders of the Lost Ark is easily one of the greatest films ever made, and yet if you don't like action or cocky archeologist types, not to mention Nazis, then you might not get on with it!

Have you any idea just how patronising that sounRAB.

Well, speaking as a pleb, I'll just have to bow to both of your obviously superior knowledge of film because I thought it was bloody brilliant.

And I also really liked The Green Mile.

Each to his own, as they say

I love this film. Have done from the first time I saw it when I was young! I love the ending when Red talks about his hopes.

It is a very good film. But people need to realise that the fact that it is at the top of the IMDB top films list is a reflection of how broadly popular it is amongst the masses. Any critic can point to Citizen Kane as one of the greatest films of all time, but a man on the street may find it quite boring. Seven Samurai might be less appreciated because of the language barrier, or The Godfather for it's length.

When a collaborative effect is made to rank films based on ratings given by individual people, is it any surprise that a film like Shawshank, which is easily accessible and understandable, moving, well acted, written and directed with one of the most feelgood endings in the modern Hollywood era, has risen to the top?

I don't think it is a case of it being overrated, it is just one of the most popular films in recent times.

Sensing that something was going to happen after lights out, Red's voice -

"I've spent some long nights in stir, all alone in the dark with nothing but your thoughts, time draws out like a blade. That was the longest night of my life"

Saw this film 12 years ago and have watched it many times since. One of my favourite all timers.

We'll probs get both slated but I do agree. Most the people I know who really rate it don't have what I would call eclectic or thoughtful taste in movies. If your used to a diet of Hollywood blockbusters then the SR probably does seem very profound and a cut above.

watched it for the first time fairly recently and enjoyed it more than i thought i would. so much so i got my free copy in the times today!

I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

I got tears in my eyes just reading that there! :)
