shared rooms at university?

It would be my idea of hell too, and I was so relieved when I was placed in a single room. However, I had friends who lived in shared rooms, and most of them were quite happy with it - the only ones who didn't like it were those who didn't get on with the person they shared with.

It would be hell for me too. My daughter will be attending college next year in Indiana-USA, and she says that first year students do not have to sleep in dorms, that they can get an apartment outside of campus.

Shared rooms would be much harder on introverts, who like their privacy.

i was just thinking about this, and to me it's possibly in my vision of hell.
i know its the norm at american universities, whereas most uk uni rooms are single occupancy, but seriously- never having your own space? not being able to scratch your butt or sleep in the buff without someone being there to witness it? nightmare.

thoughts please.
