I would invite them round to your house, then have a discussion about it, tell them you asked them if you could do it, also no of them have offered to help or pay for any of the work, you just did it to make it look nice,& re -assure them you do not want to take the land over,

Outside our house, four houses share a out door space. It's always been over grown and muddy. So we asked the other people if they would mind if we made it look nice. So we dug it out and put decking and flags down. But we made a path from our house to the area (it was really muddy) We are the last house in the row and closer to the garden than anyonce else. They watched us do the work and spend almost £1000 anbd never said anything. Then this morning one of them knocks on the door and says it looks like we have taken the area over and she is worried that we might clam the land. They have not offered help or money towards it , but the thought about claiming the land never even entered into our minds. We just wanted it nice for everyone , and for everyone to use. Can they make us un-do all the work, and is there anything we could do to ressure them that we don't want the land
On the deeds for the house, it does say shared garden. So even if we moved then the next people still would not be able to take it over. Starting to think their is no pleasing some people and we should have left it as a mud bath. My Husband is going to talk to them tonight (he as done all the work) and ask them what would make them happier (if anything)
