Sexual reference in The Flintstones?

That did indeed sound like a double entendre, but I don't see that as being all that shocking. The Flintstones was originally a prime-time sitcom intended for adults, not children, after all.

Hmm, I think the gag is that Barney's trying to one-up Fred's joke about buying an extra head, making it more absurd by implying that he's already got a spare head lying around at home somewhere. It's meant to be a bad joke, hence why Barney keeps on laughing at it after Fred's stopped.

Sorry if I sound naive, but what is the alleged sexual joke here? I think I vaguely know what it is, but if anyone would like to PM me to verify what I think it might mean, it'd be appreciated.

Taking a page out of Futurama, let us substitute head for horn (the horn being the nose). Guys have the regular horn, and a special "lower" horn.

This video should make things clearer for you.

There was another episode where they had "Ladies Night" at one of the clubs Fred/Barney were working at, and the guy at the door asks Wilma who she's with, and she points to Betty and says, "I'm with her." Followed by Betty's, "It's ladies night isn't it? Well I'm with her."

There was also anther episode where the Water Buffalo's thought Fred was setting them up a strip show, whereas it was really a beauty pangent for babies that Pebbles was entered in. One of those guys asks, "Are we going to see girls in a bikini's?" and Barney replies, "No, we're actually going to see girls in diapers." The guy says, "Wowee, I didn't know they posed like that! Yahoo!"

LMAO. And of course Pebbles and the other babies crawl out on stage instead of adult women.

The first one was the ep where Betty thought Barney was cheating on her due to finding his cloth having Wilma's lipstick (Fred wiped it off his face). It was actually a ballgame they went to, where Wilma knew the "girl" Barney was with was really Fred due to the clothes, and Betty knew what was going on. Since he had a ticket to the game, Fred dressed in drag in order to get in free since it was Ladies' Day and any paying customer could bring in a girl for free.

Perhaps the "second head" means Betty as head of the household? After all, back in the 60's "another head" could have referred to his wife rather than what y'all are thinking.

I very much doubt that. I've never heard anyone refer to their wife as "another head". I'm pretty sure that Barney was referring to his "lower horn" (Futurama reference). TV writers have been sneaking innuendos past the censors for decades.

First, it was "Ladies' Day at a ballpark, not "Ladies' Night" at a club. Second, I fail to see how that scene was in any way sexual. Ladies could get in fee if accompanied by a man, so both Betty and Wilma each used the other one as an excuse to get in free. How is that a sexual reference?

This isn't a sexual reference IIRC, but it does come under the heading of 'naughty stuff in the Flintstones'. In the Pie King episode (which is a REALLY weird episode for other reasons as well) there's a part where Fred's saying something and a long part of his sentence is bleeped out. I was pretty surprised to see that on the Flintstones. Keep in mind though, that I only saw this episode on Teletoon Retro, so it might've been some mistake on their part rather than part of the episode. It was absolutely hilarious though.

Uh...the joke is that Barney is too dumb to even count to three. It's one of the oldest jokes in the book and they did it more than once with Barney. It's a big stretch to make a penis reference out of it, no matter how "head" can be used.

You're all just thinking too hard about it because the youtube uploader planted the idea in your heads.

One of the more "adult" episodes I've seen was the one with Fred and Barney judging a beauty pagent for the Water Buffalos. One of the best parts is when one of the girls tells Wilma her "measurements" and Wilma couldn't believe it.

Sorry to be late to the discussion, I just noticed this thread. Of course The Flintstones had a number of adult themes and jokes--but this isn't one of them. It was common at the time to refer to drawings as being a certain number of "heads" tall. A realistic figure would be six or seven heads tall, a cartoon figure probably four. Barney is making a joke about being short, that he's only two heads tall and adding another head would make him three heads tall.

Not the funniest joke in the world, but it would be understood in the 1960s.

Wow......lol, that was pretty out there. Could he be talking about his wife being one head? I don't know, that was pretty obvious to me.

You want a real laugh? Look up "Flinestones/American History X" or "Flinestones sell Cigarettes"......
