i was just wondering is it just as big as a sin as if you weren't engaged, or if an engagement "lessens" the sin. or if it is considered something you are sharing with someone who you will be spending the rest of your life with?

just curious and want opinions. me and my friend argued over it today

If you are under the impression that premarital sex is a sin, then it is just as big of a sin if you are engaged as it is if you are not engaged. Being engaged is not the same as being married. Things could always happen and you could call off the wedding, therefore making that person not the one you are spending the rest of your life with.
If you are wanting to save yourself for the guy/girl you want to spend your whole life with, don't justify having sex before you are married by saying "we're engaged, so we are going to be together forever." It's still having sex before you are 100% promised to that person.

It is a sin, most defiantly. In the Bible it says sex outside of marriage is a sin and technically you are not married by the state or in God. I was in the same situation and fell to temptation, now we decided to cut it off. a big mistake. In ancient Roman Jews would mary but not be able to live or engage in intercourse for one year. Look to that for inspiration.

it depends on your religion why dont you ask a local pastor / minster but generally i would say that if you believe sex before marriage is wrong then so is sex when engaged
