Sex and the City 2 - misogyny?

i know there's another thread on this film but i wanted to start one about the misogyny i think this film has stirred up

i'll admit i assumed it would be a terrible film, the reviews have been savage etc and i've been slating any of my frienRAB who have been to see it 'you must have no taste' etc (obv all in a jokey way!)

however i saw this last night and was quite surprised. its not bad at all, a massive improvement on the first i think.

there are several things a lot of the reviews picked up on.

1. the film is racist and tranples over another cultures beliefs. no it doesn't. SAMANTHA does that, and they are constantly telling her she is wrong. there's a difference between a racist film and a character in a film..

2. miranda leaves her job for her family and puts her career second. no she doesn't. she leaves because her boss is an a-hole. she still goes back to work.

3. carrie 'has it all' yet is still moaning. well lots of people get married to the person of their dreams and then think 'oh no, now what??'. its quite a pertinent thing to discuss i think. lots of critics have said the issues it raises are unimportant but i disagree. ditto charlotte finding it hard to cope being a mother (yes, even with help...). these are all things women worry about.

also, finally, how many critics slated SJP for the way she looks? 'looks like a drag queen' / 'why the long face?' etc - men don't get this abuse, why should women? double standarRAB...

I agree with what you said

Plus i have been pissed off by the majority of the reviews. Most of the people who have reviewed it are either middle aged men or people who never liked the tv show and movie anyway, therefore clouding their judgement of the show

I respect people's reviews but i don't respect certain critic's reviews.

I think you are reading too much into a stupid film. Its stupid because its bad, theres no point trying go any deeper. The miscalculations are everywhere, you choose a few to be offended at when there are so many others making the characters themselves look idiotic.

Cultural beliefs are not equivalent to race. Thinking that saudis are backward because they won't even let their women drive is not racism.

I agree with you. expect on point 1. Samantha was just being her (western) self. I agree with respecting cultures. But lot of the rules are archaic. spend all the money encouraging westerners to come to their county, but then arrest them for something that is really considered the norm in majority of the world. Not saying there should be one rule for one, and one for another. But her actions were not with malice until she was directly attacked

i think you misunderstand me, i agree with what you say. it's the critics picking things that either weren't true or twisting things to make their point
