Sex and the City 2 - bitter disappointment??

Just back from Sex and the City and am very disappointed with it. It felt like there was no actual storyline and had a slapstick feel to it.

Samantha was probably the best in the film but given her age and character she seems to evolving into Liz McDonald.

I think it's time it was put to bed now, before they just ruin it.
 
I didn't really like the first film and this one was a bit more fun but with much less content and sillier. So they're even stevens really for me. I liked the characters better in this film though, but neither film is a patch on the series and I felt that series had a pretty perfect ending tbh, which they're now continuously tweaking sadly.

That bit with Liza Minelli should never have been committed to celluloid...so embarrassing.

The only scene that provoked any real warmth in me was the scene with Miranda and Charlotte drinking and talking about being mothers. Best scene in the film, and ironically one of the least flashy bits.
 
Ahh went last night and loved it.

Yes it was definitely more comedy than the first one but so what.

Me and the girls went armed with our plastic glasses and pre bottled cosmos and had a ball.

Cried and laughed from beginning to end and thought everything was so fabulously fun and camp.

And as for LIza Minelli that part had us in stitches was a great night and glad I didnt listen to the reviewers that panned it ;)
 
It's always about Carrie. Even in the series she could flip any conversation back to her favourite topic: herself.

The movie is just a two and a half hour commercial.
 
i really really enjoyed it. it was just a fun 'romp' and those of you not going to see it based on bad reviews - shame on you! Make your minRAB up for yourself and you will enjoy it.

Samantha was hilarious. Miranda was fun in abu dhabi. Carrie looked amazing in Halston and Charlotte actually had a bit of a story.

I am a little bit ashamed that i now prefer Big to Aidan though.

Third film may be stretching it. Series would be great!
 
I actually enjoyed the first movie to be honest but I just got into the series (after it was cancelled :( ) when I was forced to watch it (honest!) and all my prejudice went away as I laughed throughout at its filth.

I think they should do the series again. . .as they could have a good lot of series left. . .if they do these films, they will age dramatically between productions and it won't last as long.
 
I thought it was atrocious, and I loved the series so much, thought the first movie was alright, but this was just car crash! My friend put it really well when he said it felt like we were watching a dress rehearsal of the film! It was like everyone had forgotten to act, they were all really awkward with each other! I was watching Liza Minelli through my fingers, it was that bad - the woman can't even talk anymore! Aidan was a waste of time, and I was so excited that he was going to be in it, then Carrie has all the drama me me me after what happens between them! She is an unlikeable character now! If they do another one, i probably would go and see it, just to see how awful it would be! As far as I am concerned, the whole franchise stopped at the end of series 6! Such a shame, as I was so hopeful!

Did anyone else think the whole Abu Dhabi bit felt like a travelogue?!! "And over here we have a balcony and blah blah"!

Also, I kept thinking it was going to finish, and then it would just carry on and on...

SATC 2 hours too long!!

Oh, one last thing - the "how I met the girls" thing, didn't ring true for me, from watching the series I never would have thought Carrie knew Charlotte first.

what a racist little film. Haven't seen anything get such awful reviews in a long time, and it deserves every one of them. Am shocked none of the people here have mentioned the racism seeing as practically every reviewer has picked up on it.

an embarrassment (as was the first) after such a groundbreaking tv series
 
I thought it was brilliant... I can see why people haven't loved it, but how could you not love those clothes?? OMG - they all looked gorgeous...

'Lawrence of my labia' ha ha! Don't you just love Sam Jones. My friend is a hairdresser and just like her ; )
 
I agree about another series, I would prefer that to another movie. But I guess the series wont make as much money - apparantley SJP stanRAB to make $50m from this movie alone. The first movie was brilliant - each character had their own big stories and was emotional yet funny. There is a lack of a major story in this one and where it is funny in places, I feel very disappointed by it.
 
After hearing really bad reviews of it I was pretty worried, but it suprised me and I really enjoyed it. What I liked the most was that although men were obviously involved (!) it seemed to revolve more around the girls together having a laugh and their frienRABhip than the previous film and I enjoyed that aspect of it.

It was also great to have Samantha being much more prominent in it as she was grossly underused in the last film!
 
I didnt think it was racist to be honest. Yes, they were amazed by the culture there and how the women are forced to cover up, but so are a lot of western people. And yes, Samantha really insulted people but I don't think it was racist.
 
firstly, haven't seen it yet (omg, i know, soon though) but from what i've heard a third film is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, because the films seem to have undermined the series, especially this new second film.

even though i haven't seen it yet (and rest assured i will post here once i have), this publicly derided film cannot be the last stand the 4 girls, and their writers/producers, have. a third film to silence the critics, please the fans (well, as much of them as possible) and end the whole venture on a high note is totally crucial, plus the mathmatical roundness of a trilogy (and the inevitable crew's greediness) makes a final film an absiolute must, ideally a 3rd film that harks back to the series in it's subtleness, reality and dare i say, grittiness, as apposed to the glittery "hollywood-ness" of the film franchise. plus, if it's the last one, surely the producers would have free reign to be as serious and important as the series that gained them all the worldwide fans in the first place was.
 
Wow I loved it, and even preferred it to the first movie.

They always said the second movie would concentrate more on having fun and the girls, and that's what it was! Just like the series some episodes concentrated on storyline and others more on the comedy, I don't see the problem!

Kim Cattrall stole the movie for me...I never stopped laughing throughout!
 
I have seen the first, i enjoyed it, even though i was never into the series. I have seen about 15 eps altogether over the full run of the show. If i see the second film ill wait for it to come on sky, it doesnt look that great from the aRAB iv seen.
 
Pointing out sexism isn't racist. You have lost the plot on what that term is supposed to mean...
However in the film anything they did on the issue would be hamfisted, in bad taste, and generally misguided.
 
I love SATC....I have slowly grown to love the first film...I will wait for this one to be on DVD before I see it (like I did with the first)...

NOTHING will ever better the series though, which was amaZING! Its my favourite thing in the world...the clothes, the frienRABhips, the MEN!

YES to another series...a third film? Meh....
 
If you are a fan of Sex and the City and you are reading this thread, PLEASE DO NOT GO AND SEE THIS FILM!!! You'll only encourage them to drag the 'girls' out of their hermetically sealed boxes for another sequel.

The series was great television: Witty, shocking, touching, well observed.... it was a great creation which I can watch and enjoy to this day.

This film is a putrid stinking mess, it has two goood laughs in it, and the general reaction from a cinema full of women (i was one of about five blokes in the whole theatre) was not positive, most of the cinema seemed to be groaning at Carrie's constant whining.

2/10, just let it die.
