got my second mri and it shows that the disc protrusion has been reabsorbed , the pain is much worse than before and the doctor has advised physio, anyone know a good neurosurgeon who would look at my mri scans as I had them emailed to me, the pain is that bad my legs keep buckling under me and although I have a disability badge I am entitled to notheing else, he also recons that no one would operate I am at the end of my tether I cant take this pain any more:(

since last novemeber I have had severe pain in my right leg and lower back after being told the waiting list for physio was 18 weeks my doctor gave me anti-inflamitories and codydramol tablets also due to spasms in legs diazipam, he also advised me to go private for cyropractor cost me

You sound like you have the same symptoms I had. Mine was an L5 disc pressing on the S1 nerve. My surgerywas done Oct. 10th. am still in some pain but it is getting better daily, I have to be off work 6 wks. I hope every thing turns out well for youl

Ken, I had/have pretty much th same pain as you do hip, right udner buttdock and dow the back of my leg. It has been 3 weeks since surgery, this is the first wk. I have been able to drive. am still in pain but it gets a little better every couple of days.
Good Luck.

Hi Its so good to read your posts and realise Im not alone!
Im 54 and have a long history of r knee probs beginning with osteo condritis at 16 and ending four years ago with an osteotomy to tuck the arthritis away for a while til I can have a new knee. Then a motorbike accident wiped out the cruciate ligaments which wasnt discovered til they were beyong repairing. Then a fall from the attic resulted in a fractured back and collapse of the fractured vertebrae. Cant remeraber the nuraber but its at about waist height and the femoral nerve runs from it.
Take brufen, tramadol, amytryptilin every morning and night and get through mostly. However just recently I am crippled with leg pains....around both knees, r one being worse and pain in r thigh when Ive been sitting and a feeling of real weakness in that muscle The pain in this muscle in the night is excrutiating but abates after Ive rubbed and pumelled it a bit and changed position.
Ive also noticed that the muscle on the outside ot the knee up to the thigh seems to be wasting away. Going up and down stairs is agony and i go side ways. Im over weight but have just lost nearly 3 stone ( only 3 more to go! :-{)
My doc just shrugs but as its getting worse i have an appointment with her next week.
Convincing myself that there is something REALLY wrong but reading some of your posts is helping me think its just a result of all the injuries.
Ill let you know how i get on,
LXX

Sophie, I had the same surgery as you in the same area. Where your pain is now and what does the doc say?

My surgery 10/1 and my doctor just out me on a 6 day steroid pack followed by an anti-inflammatory. Pain is in my buttock/high hip... it is not very pleasant especially when it radiates into my calf.

The doctor told me it was just the nerve being agitated and swollen.

Just curious what you are going through?

Hope all goes well for you all. I have had 7 surgeries in the last 3 years. I am now disabled and use a cane when I try to walk more than 20-30 feet, My surgeon messed up when he did my 2nd operation and now there is a mass of scar tissue around my nerve roots @ L5-S1...Failed Back Syndrome. I have had my spinal cord stimulator for a little over 1 year. It works great for the nerve pain in my legs, but now the doctors want to put a pain pump in for my extreme pain in my back. I am supposed to take 1-2 Vicodin and 40mg of Methadone 4 times a day (most days I only take half of that) and the doctors want to get me off the oral meRAB. Wish I could have my old life back!!!

Keep your head up!!!

P.S......I'm only 38 so I really know how you feel to have such a life changing injury at a young age. Just try to think positive.

Ken is it possible you are doing too much? It doesn't take much to make it hurt worse. My leg , hip, back still hurt but not as severe. In fact. I got up a few mornings ago and felt good no pain I went all and didn't take one pain pill. the next day Ithought this is great. I picked up the 10 lb dog a big nono, then I went shopping a couple hours and the next morning....oh my gosh I was in much more pain than before and it is still worse but not as bad as before surgery. The doc said I over did it!! and to get in a reclining position and
stay there. Take care
Sophie

hey friend, whether 38 or 48 it is so hard to let go of memories without pain,,,being able to walk or even exist without pain. I had surgery 2 years ago L5 S1 car accident and water slide finished me off...(even at 48) It has taken me 2 years to get to the point of even looking for people to talk to about the pain....I now have faced the fact that I am not getting better without getting help both mentally and physically. I have had all of the previous things done to have the spinal cord stimulator trial...they say that I am the perfect candidate for it since I have mostly let and foot pain... but we will see...any way my point was that whatever you have to do, talk to people, try to get up each day and ask for mercy and the Grace of God to get through the day. Try to make a difference in at least one persons life a day and getting involved will help you realize that other people are in the same boat as you...It has helped me so much....I am trying to get info on SCS ..Medtronic BRand....Thanks and God Bless You...
