severe dizziness -- possible vertigo?

Earlier today, I had a bout of severe dizziness that came out of nowhere. All of a sudden, I felt a little lightheaded, and then the room started spinning like the teacup ride at Disney World. It went away just as suddenly as it started. I think it only really lasted about a minute or two, but it was pretty scary. I felt fine the rest of the day.
This actually happened to me once before about 2 months ago, but that time it was right after I stood up, and after I sat down again, I felt better right away, so I assumed at the time that I had just stood up too quickly. Today, though, I was sitting when it happened.
I have seasonal allergies, and they were acting up a bit today, and they were last time this happened, too, so I don't know if that's related at all or just coincidence??? Someone suggested that it could be vertigo, but I thought vertigo was more severe than what I had.

Vertigo is caused by the inner ear so remember that. If an ENT sees nothing, this might sound odd now, but see a TMJ specialist. They are all very related.

my mom has vertigo & it doesn't go away right away. if she's bent over & stands fast then she'll experience dizziness, then it leaves. but it doesn't come & go like you describe. could be the allergies-nose or head blocked? wouldn't worry too much but paying attn is good

reading your post it just might be "postural hypotension", worth "googling".
my advise would to get your blood pressure checked, and perhaps your "blood sugar" tested as well.
when i personally experienced your problem it turned out to be the beginning of "hypertension", so yes my friend check your BP or better still purchase your own BP digital monitor, at least it removes any anxieties you might experience, take care tom.;)

i agree but i think i remember it was "POSSIBLE vertigo?"that mo0622 quoted , so as i said it is not advisable to treat until one finds out EXACTLY what one is trying to cure.

This is a bad time of year for allergies and that may be your problem. Have you tried taking an anahistamin?

I had this happen recently and it is ragweed season here, it always gets me. I had no stuffy nose, etc. waked up with vertigo. Taking an anahistamin (Zyrtec) was the answer for me.
