hi karen. sorry i have not gotten back to you sooner. i had some searching to do before i got back here. one HUGE thing here first, DO NOT go back to ANY chiro at thes point, at all, at least til you have been fully evaluated by a good neurosurgeon. some of your findings are just not ones you should be placing at ANY real risk right now with ANY types of adjustments anywhere in there.
unfortunetly when i actually looked up what a meningocele was, it kept popping up things having to do with spina bifida? and from the other areas that also appear to be affected, which in SB are usually kind of there, but usually more pronounced with certain types? from what i found, there are like four types or levles of SB with the meningocele actually being the more rare type but also what appears to be the least impactful overall when compared to what is just present with the other three.
this is actually created in utero, meaning you were born with this going on? its considered some type of actual neural tube defect. with actual spina bifida ,babies can be born with no real actual skin covering the spinal column like normal(with ALOT of other spinal problems too)? kind of scarey there actually. but this would be by far the worst and not what you have going on here at all. but the fact that your cord is being displaced by what just could be a sac type of thing? that IS indicative of what can occur within that dura that surrounRAB the cord with this particular form too. that IS what the actual meningocele really is i think, that sac creation thingy? while a possible arachnoid cyst is formed within or on the arachnoid layer of the spinal cord.
you most definitely NEED to be seeing a good knowledgable neurosurgeon who does just have a good understanding of mostly spina bifida, if nothing else to just rule this in or out and a to a lessor degree one who is experienced with arachnoid cysts. but you really just DO need to find out for certain what that is going on there at that affected level for sure. and like i mentioned above,to please stay away from ANY more chiro adjustments too. this type of finding really is the bigger reason that whenever possbile i simply tell people to just at the very least obtain a crucial MRI of your spine BEFORE you make the actual decision to seek out any chiros. some findings can just turn into possible disasters if certain movements, shifting and or changes are done within the spine.
right now i would just concentrate on getting to the most knowledgable type of NS for your possible situation. one good place to go with the more rare types of findings and or conditions is where i went with my 'rare" cavernous hemangioma that i was also born with right in the middle of my spinal cord, a good university type of teaching hospital. they are just much more likely to have treated many many more of the rarer types of conditions at these facilitys since many people with this type of stuff just cannot find any real true hard answers from seeing even several different types of specialists. so this is where they tend to turn for that last hope type of opinion. when i went to the U of MN, it WAS my last hope and my 3rd opinion too. you just really want and need experience and knowledge of any type of condition you have that neeRAB intervention, monitoring or treatment. this is just what i would do in your current situation. hopefully you live near a good uni hosp? even if you have to drive a ways out, in most cases, that extra effort is worth that drive and time spent just to even get the best eval and possible intervention/treatment too.
i do wish you luck with all this, and again so sorry to have not gotten back to you sooner. i was just also a bit taken aback when i read what that finding actually was. please do keep me posted as to what you find out karen,K? take care hon, marcia
