Karen,

It's time to see your primary care physician if you haven't already, and stay away from the chiropractor, especially if you have been getting worse. Your primary may get you started on physical therapy or epidural injections which should be fine at this point.

You should also request a referral to a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon or neurosurgeon who only works on spines. This type of doctor could determine if you need additional tests and what options there are to help you.

Also, it is very difficult to get SSDI for spine problems if you haven't had surgery yet, and the SSA won't take chiropractor medical reports as evidence as they are not medical doctors. They will take x-rays done by a chiropractor, but not their medical opinions or notes. Hopefully you'll be able to get better enough to get back into life soon, but if not you will need to have several medical doctors solidly on your side and prepare for a long battle to get SSDI.

Warm wishes!

honestly i too feel that staying the heck away from any chiro is crucial right now. just so you know,t here is simply NO WAY any level of specialist, and no chiro could possibly tell if anyone actually had any level of real nerve impingement based ONLY upon a plain old x ray, no way, only beacuse x ray simply does NOT even go deep enough to even visualize nerves or the foramens where impingment most commonly is located. scarey in just what this chiro actually told you based upon "presumption" only. do NOT go back. this really is nothing to mess with. when there is actually ANY true 'pinching" of any nerve going on, it will not be written that way at all. it would state impingement, stenosis or true compression going on only. was this a full spinal MRI or just the c spine which i am assuming would be the area they looked at considering you symptoms? the only real thing that an x ray would show would be how well aligned your spinal column vertebrae are along with possible bulges and or hernations, not anything that is actually being affected or impacted by those findings since it is way beyond that basic capacity of an x ray and what it simply will and will not show, you know what i mean?

do you actually have your own copy of the MRI in your possession right now? any MRI results that just get 'told" to us can be in many cases only part of what is/can be actually even there as a hard finding. if you could just post what actually showed up in that summary at the very end of your report, it would realy help tons in giving you the best possible advice right now. you just need the opinion of a good neurosurgeon or a fully accreddited spinal surgeon who even has that certification to actually enter that spinal canal at all. this is just the true level of knowledge and experience you need right now. not some idiot chiro who actually thinks an x ray would even begin to actually show something that is not even possible to actually show upon plain x ray.

just also reading thru your own MRI results can be a very eye opening experience too. many findings that i have had show up were never actually told to me at all. i found this stuff out only becasue i aways obtain my own copies of any and all real testing results done on various parts of my body. just who actually ordered that MRI and who told you about those results? that alone can matter ALOT too as far as what you got told was even a hard finding. its a really sick little practicew that many docs do,espescially any level of real specialist for some sick reason.

just get your hanRAB on your very own copy of that report if you have not yet already done so. if you can just type of that summary at the end, many of us could help you to really interpret the overall findings in it. you can obtain one thru either your ordering docs office or the easeir quickest way would be to obtain it directly from the actual facility who actually performed it on you. all you have to do is simply show up there, sign a release of info and they print off your copy right there and then, no real wait like you could have with your doc office. you just REALLY need that copy of that report. and from here on put always obtain your very own copy of any and all real testing results as soon as they permit it. this really is just the very best way for you to stay fully informed and manage your own healthcare too. i just had to start doing this one thing, along with every six months or so(depending), actually obtaining my actual medical recorRAB from all my treating docs. this just also gives YOU better insight into what any given docs impressions of the problems you have actually are too, like how seriously he is taking things and his overall impressions of it for you. very valuable info is contained in those recorRAB too. just some helpful suggestions for you that have really helped me to navigate thru all my ongoing medical nightmares. just post that summary when you can,K? good luck, marcia

I went to a Neurologist in my home town here in SC and here what they said.. I am reading it from a report. They did a cervical MRI and a Thoracic MRI on my spine.
Arachnoid Cyst on my Thoracic Level and possible Meningocele.
MRI of the cervical spine without the contrast showed a C4-5 bi-lobe disc osteophyte complex with mild left foraminal narrowing,at C6-7 mild left foraminal narrowing, and then a ventral deviation at the cord at T3.There was a CSF signal region within the spinal canal dorsal at T3 through T5,slightly displacing the cord in a ventral direction and slightly impressing the cord.It is read to represnt either an Arachnoid Cyst or possibly a Meningocele. There is no suggest neoplasm, nor is there any compression of the Thoracic cord seen.
That is all this report said.I do have copies of my MRI's.
Can anyone tell me what Meningocele means ? Thanks so much.
I hope someone on here can tell me in english what all this means ? I cannot understand what doctors talk means.

I had a MRI done but they didn't say anything about any pinches nerves. Maybe the Chiroprator was wrong. All i know is that my left leg goes nurab and my my upper back in always huring. Also my neck.

I'm new to this board but have learned a lot from reading other responses from the veterans.

When I got my MRI report a few weeks back I looked on some spine websites and looked up the observations/impressions on the report. Initially I thought I had pinched nerve, when in fact I have stenosis. Maybe people use these terms to mean the same, but in fact stenosis can be serious. It can cause quite a lot of pain to parts of your body depending upon which vertebrae it's occurring.

How do you know you have a pinched nerve - who gave you the diagnosis? And have you received an actual MRI report with the observations from the radiologist?

hi karen. sorry i have not gotten back to you sooner. i had some searching to do before i got back here. one HUGE thing here first, DO NOT go back to ANY chiro at thes point, at all, at least til you have been fully evaluated by a good neurosurgeon. some of your findings are just not ones you should be placing at ANY real risk right now with ANY types of adjustments anywhere in there.

unfortunetly when i actually looked up what a meningocele was, it kept popping up things having to do with spina bifida? and from the other areas that also appear to be affected, which in SB are usually kind of there, but usually more pronounced with certain types? from what i found, there are like four types or levles of SB with the meningocele actually being the more rare type but also what appears to be the least impactful overall when compared to what is just present with the other three.

this is actually created in utero, meaning you were born with this going on? its considered some type of actual neural tube defect. with actual spina bifida ,babies can be born with no real actual skin covering the spinal column like normal(with ALOT of other spinal problems too)? kind of scarey there actually. but this would be by far the worst and not what you have going on here at all. but the fact that your cord is being displaced by what just could be a sac type of thing? that IS indicative of what can occur within that dura that surrounRAB the cord with this particular form too. that IS what the actual meningocele really is i think, that sac creation thingy? while a possible arachnoid cyst is formed within or on the arachnoid layer of the spinal cord.
you most definitely NEED to be seeing a good knowledgable neurosurgeon who does just have a good understanding of mostly spina bifida, if nothing else to just rule this in or out and a to a lessor degree one who is experienced with arachnoid cysts. but you really just DO need to find out for certain what that is going on there at that affected level for sure. and like i mentioned above,to please stay away from ANY more chiro adjustments too. this type of finding really is the bigger reason that whenever possbile i simply tell people to just at the very least obtain a crucial MRI of your spine BEFORE you make the actual decision to seek out any chiros. some findings can just turn into possible disasters if certain movements, shifting and or changes are done within the spine.

right now i would just concentrate on getting to the most knowledgable type of NS for your possible situation. one good place to go with the more rare types of findings and or conditions is where i went with my 'rare" cavernous hemangioma that i was also born with right in the middle of my spinal cord, a good university type of teaching hospital. they are just much more likely to have treated many many more of the rarer types of conditions at these facilitys since many people with this type of stuff just cannot find any real true hard answers from seeing even several different types of specialists. so this is where they tend to turn for that last hope type of opinion. when i went to the U of MN, it WAS my last hope and my 3rd opinion too. you just really want and need experience and knowledge of any type of condition you have that neeRAB intervention, monitoring or treatment. this is just what i would do in your current situation. hopefully you live near a good uni hosp? even if you have to drive a ways out, in most cases, that extra effort is worth that drive and time spent just to even get the best eval and possible intervention/treatment too.

i do wish you luck with all this, and again so sorry to have not gotten back to you sooner. i was just also a bit taken aback when i read what that finding actually was. please do keep me posted as to what you find out karen,K? take care hon, marcia

Marcia,Thanks for all the info you gave me.It helped me out so much.I will keep you up to date on whats going on.

I went to a Chiropractor for 7 weeks and he done xrays of my spine and seen i had several pinched nerves.Thats all he said. He done the usual thing Chiropracotors do.Which didn't help one bit. I think it actually made my back worst.I am in the process of trying to get Social Secuity Disability now and i am only 46.I am in so much pain every day.

just one thing here that i do think i forget to mention? the best POSSIBLE thing you can just do for yourself right now is to research the living heck out of what are listed as the two possibles here? find anything and everything about these two findings to simply really educate yourself on what you may be dealing with. besides just getting a better understanding of your conditons, it also allows YOU to simply ASK the best possible questions about what these condtions just really mean for you right now. any specialist is just going to be using alot of new worRAB that you have never ever heard before(its what they do), so the more familiar you just are having read about this BEFORE even the initial eval and consult is HUGE just to really get the best POSSIBLE eval/consult with any specialist.

this is what i have had to do for myself and my son with all the over the top insane and rarer types of nightmares we were just 'born with". some insane things can just be there within our own bodies at times and don't show themselves til they just get picked up on a particular scan like yours and mine was. also, get a notebook out and leave it out somewhere kind of there all the time,
i used my kitchen counter for this, so ANYTIME, during the day or even in the night, that you just happen to think of one of those really good questions you need an anaswer to, you go to this directly as soon as it pops into your head so you don't forget it? and just write this down. this REALLY helped me alot since i would think of good questions to ask my NS pre op(and i had TONS), then forget what the dang thing was by the time i found a piece of paper to just write it down later. it helps alot karen.

but i would be at this point just researching and trying to seek out the best possible neurosurgeon in order to get the best possible info on this and also what can be done to just alleviate this for you too. any really helpful info you find on these conditions make certain to also print it off and just keep this stuff in some kind of folder so you just have it as a good referrance at any time. i had to do this too with wayy too many crappy syndromes and conditions i ended up with.

i do wish you luck with this and hope things will all be okay for you. please DO keep me posted hon. hang in there karen, Marcia

Hi,I just recently found out that I have several cysts on my spine. I have no idea what my doctor is going to do about them. She told me that she will send the MRI off to a couple of different surgeons to have them look at them to see if they will do anything for me. She has told me that she hasnt seen cysts this big on a spine before. All I know is that I am in a lot of pain all day long. Even the pain meRAB that I am on don't dull the pain. Have you had surgery since posting these? Thanks for your time in reading my thoughts here....it might help to find out what other people have had done...Debbie
