Seth Mcfarlane's v/o training

I like Seth am a creator of various shows. I want to voiceover some of my characters, but the creators and staff that do voices on cartoons only do cameos or minor characters who are only seen now and again. Seth, who does Peter, Brian, Stewie, Quagmire and Roger is far and away an exception. Does he mention what his voiceover experience is?

He had to have been doing it for a while, as he was voicing most of the characters for his college animation creations as well. Most people that do that more or less took cues from Mel Blanc though, who talked back and forth with himself the most out of anyone probably.

Hey, Gilbert Gottfried's still alive.

And Seth's one of the best VAs in the business. I think Seth has a great, rich, deep voice that he can manipulate very well. Peter, Brian, Stewie, Quagmire and Roger all sound different from each other and I'd never believe they were all one man if I didn't know. And boy, can he sing. His voice is his greatest talent, really.

In live-action, I get a Rick Astley vibe every time I hear that deep voice coming out of that young guy's mouth (and sure enough, when Seth sung "Never Gonna Give You Up" there was almost no difference).

I can kind of hear every character with that little Macfarlane twang except Roger. That is the only one I was shocked that he was doing, because he sounds NOTHING like MacFarlane.

On the subject, this also makes me wonder about Bill Kopp and Savage Steve Holland, the creators of Eek The Cat. Both creators did voices in their own cartoons. And Paul Rugg. I wonder if he has any background training in acting. After all, he's now a puppeteer for Henson.

I figured "It's my dang show, I can do V.O.'s if I want."

If we want to give props to other animated series creators that do a lot of voices for the creators in their shows we can't discount Mike Judge for his work on Beavis Butthead and not to mention King of The Hill which has been successful for well over a decade.

Paul Rugg though is a personal favorite. I watched the first episode of Freakazoid and I was hooked. Rugg does a great Jerry Lewis impression with the character.

Yeah, I remember I was also shocked to find out he did Roger's voice. It seemed like a spot-on Paul Lynde impression, so I looked it up to see who it was. Man, was I surprised! :)

Yup, him too.

Which one? I personally think that Seth's normal speaking voice has a nice urbane cultured quality to it.
