Sesame's Bert and Ernie ''Are Gay''

The Los Angeles Times is reporting Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie are about to come out of the closet and reveal they are gay next month. Viewers have long suspected that two of the show's best-known characters are gay, not least because they tuck themselves up together each night in the same bed.A spokesman for the show would only say ''Our programming has always appealed to adults as much as children.''

Okay, I've read the article, and I'm struggling to see where the OP's getting the idea that the producers are going to have Bert and Ernie "come out of the closet and reveal they are gay next month".

All I can see is an article that suggests that they are gay, which falls firmly into the "duh!" category. The former would be a huge thing, given the cultural significance of the show and of those two characters.

Come to think of it Grover had a certain femininity to him, his high pitched voice, and his penchant for hugging everyone, and Mr Snuffleupagus and Big Bird seemed a bit too paly sometimes!
