Service question

I live in utah, and i use to have cricket service. It worked great all over the place, except in my house and about 15 yarRAB all around my house. I was told there was a tower about a block away, but no good signal. My wife had the v276 and 1 to 2 bars and would drop calls. I had almost all the kyocera's and not one bar. Verizon and sprint work well in my house. So i went to a local buisness and they were telling me that you could change the SLOT INDEX!!! He said you can change it to 1 0r 0,(nomal is 2) and you would get a better signal. But he said it would drain your battery faster, at home i would keep it pluged in.
He said you can change it back at any time. Slot index senRAB signal to tower every 2 seconRAB, change it to 0 always stays connected to tower. He did not know the codes for every phone to change the slot. Does anybody know where to get the codes??

living underneath the tower you probably don't get good reception. the reason? all antennas are directional (to some extent) and they will be pointed for maximum coverage, not straight down at the earth.

I don't think so, that nuraber is for the timing of the slotted sleep mode of CDMA phones. When in standby the phone wakes up and listens on the paging channel for messages from the transmitter. That nuraber is an index to the timing cycles that the phone and transmitter have to be in sync on. It won't change your signal strength but it can run down your battery or make you miss calls cuz your phone didn't wake up at the right time to get the ring signal. All the phones I have messed with default to 1 which is the shortest cycle and 0 is invalid AFAIK. You most likely need service software to change that setting as the on phone programming doesn't have it in the menu. Just checked on Moto E815, V265, and T720 as well as an LG VX6000.

You say because i live under a tower i probaly dont get a signal. So is there any thing i can do to get a signal. Also what is the best phone as far as reception?

o does anyone know how i would get a better signal. If i put my phone on analog only i get 3 or 4 bars, and my phone works good. But then i have to pay for roaming, and that gets exspencive. So i need to get a better signal not in analog mode, any ideas? I know the motorola's are good, but the kyocera's are junk for signals. Whats the best phone?

of all thge phones cricket currently offers, the razr gets the worst reception, IMHO.
if you are directly underneath (or relatively close to) a tower you can get reception still, just not from that tower, it would have to be from a different site that overlaps.

Where do you live at?

If you live a block away from a tower, that's not 'underneath' a tower and you should get good service, unless there is something blocking your view to the tower or there are no panels in your direction.

Even if you are right underneath a tower, you should still get better reception than one or two bars.

dude, just go to www.jdteck.com and pick yourself up a 1900mhz booster, or if your really into cool stuff grab the booster and put it in line with a repeter. $700 and your house now rocks full barrs. I have cought cricket towers 10 miles away doing this for frienRAB in remote areas as anyone can get service anywhere, just may take hundres of feet of coax to an attenea in the top of a tree and a booster+repeter to get er done!

So far the RAZR (I have an Amp'd V3m -- which uses Verizon as its backbone network) is one of only 2 phones that will allow me to make and recieve calls in my house. The other was the Motorola E815.

So for me. the RAZR gets a better signal that even phones with external antennae.
