Service Problems in New England?

Im in CT, and I am having a very odd service issue. In my town, where I previously got decent service, I currently get nothing. HOWEVER, every so often, I will get a small amount of service (like 1 bar). I am able to make a call when this happens, BUT when I do my service increases...and I get FULL EDGE service. When I hang up, though, my phone immediately goes to 'searching.' Outside of my town, my service is completely normal.

What gives? Is anyone else having service issuse in the new england area?

couple things u can do. try a battery pull, its weird but it fixes alot of problems... call tmo and ask if they have any outages in ur area. did something happen to ur phone, like u accidentally dropped it and then it started to get bad reception? did u install anything in ur house recently that might cause some interference?

ajs,
thanks for responding...tried the battery pull, tried the manual network scan, haven't dropped it or anything...nothing new in the house...the problem isnt just in the house, but in the area around my town...talked to tmobile, and i got nothing conclusive from them...HELP!

1) log onto ur account on the tmo website and at the bottom, where is says set up blackberry email, go in there, on the left side u will see an option for service books, go there, and click the send service books to ur phone. wait about 10 min to make sure the books made it to ur phone then do a battery pull.

2) maybe try reinstalling the os on the phone, backup all ur contacts and stuff, then reload the firmware, make sure ur getting the newest version for the 8100.

3) if still nothing, i would call tmo and tell them to replace ur phone as its not working correctly because it all of a sudden lost reception and cant get it back.

u once had reception in ur town and now u dont? u know other people with tmo in ur area with reception problems?? if so u can do a search on this site where u can request from tmo to install a cell tower in ur area. it wont happen over night. if u know tmo people that have good service in ur area, maybe ur phone just took a dump, switch it out. and if ur a diehard tmo customer, maybe think about the option of getting a 8320, and use the wifi router for reception in ur house.

alright...so i have done a ton of research over the past few days regarding my problem..and it seems that there are a number of people on all the networks having similar issues...and the diagnosis has been that there is a problem with some new OS and how it interacts with the networks...with that said...i'm looking to go to an earlier OS, any idea as to where i could find an older version of the tmobile os?

ya there are some here...check the 8100 forum there should be a sticky at the top of the page with old OSes...if you can't find it i have it and can transfer it to you via AIM if you like...let us know how it goes

well well well...it seems tmobile has come through in the clutch...problem solved! but even better than that:

1) I have better service that I did before (problem was a tower upgrade). Previously had 2 or 3 bars of GPRS; now I have 4 or 5 bars of EDGE! serious improvements.

2) Determined that Tmobile really does have the best customer service
2a.) Received 50 bonus minutes for the outage!
2b.) Received a $10 credit to my account for the inconvenience!

All in all, after a PIA..tmobile still has a happy customer....but i nearly cancelled and got an iphone :-)

thanks for everyone's help throughout this hiccup
