Serious question for Creationists. What did they teach you in biology?

Hi creationists. I'm not trying to pick a fight, not today anyway.

I am seriously curious. What did you learn in your biology class? Did they teach evolution? How was it presented to you?

I can tell you that I did not even know that people denied evolution until I went to college. It was a big shock. I literally thought that religion was ancient history in general, and no one actually believe in any of it. Seriously, huge HUGE culture shock when I went to college and learned that people still took the bible seriously.

I think that we are the product of our environment, and I am curious what kind of environement produces a creationist?

I can tell you that I was raised in a "liberal" family, but the description of a liberal that I hear Shawn Hannity and Rush describe isn't anything like my family. My dad almost became a pro athlete. He is a self made millionaire, and so is his father. Homosexuality grosses the hell out of him, but he doesn't care what people do in their own bedrooms. He is happy to pay more taxes if it is for the good of the country.

I don't understand where this weak, lazy view of liberals comes from. And I don't understand what kind of environment can create someone who actually believes the bible word for word. Please help me out?

your father is my hero.
that is what a lot of liberals are like.
i have always said that if more taxes were put to good use for the people (as opposed to war) then i would be tickled to pay. if it went to stuff that was reasonable then thats fabulous.

There was a time when evolution was considered just a theory and nothing to be taken seriously because there was a missing link. And when this was true, the majority of people thought the Biblical account of creation was the most reliable source of the truth of our existence. There also was a time when prayer was a part of public school and we were proud to call ourselves a Christian nation. There was a time when it was considered being a good parent to spank your children. (not child abuse- the right way) There was a time when it was a shame to be gay and abortion was considered murder. There was a time when no one would ever talk about Jesus the way He is talked about on this site. Kids did not used to kill each other and their parents. Old people were cherished and respected as wise. The Bible was considered Holy by majority. It did not used to be a rare thing for a teenager to get past puberty without doing drugs and having sex. There are some good changes: Equality for women and minorities, i.e. a black president, woman chosen as vp candidate. Not all changes are good-not all changes are bad. To me, because I am a Christian, it is hard to see a generation of people who have no idea about the Bible and God and Creation like you. You only see one side. I have seen both sides and therefore, I can honestly say which changes have been for the best for our country because I have seen both before and after.

I'm not a "creationist', but back in the day when I was in high school, biology class had zero evolution content.

Biology then was studying life/chemical processes and the different categories and classifications of all life forms, but evolution was never a part of the curriculum.

In fact, when I was in college and took Bio 101, evolution wasn't part of the curriculum then, either (1992)

I'm a liberal. I am a Christian. I am a creationist. I majored in biology in college. I also have no use for Limbaugh or his ilk. We cannot all be put in the same pigeon hole. You still have much to learn my friend.

God gives us the power to believe. We come from all walks of life and nations.
What gives you the right to call us weak and lazy? Do you know any of us personally? You, yourself said you were not aware of us growing up until you went to college. It looks like your parents sheltered you too much.
We were taught evolution in high school too, but God saw fit to call us into new life.

Judging from philly and ACLU Commie, they were lied to.

There are no other theories. Evolution and common descent have unanimous support and there is no competing theory being discussed anywhere in the scientific community.

There are thousands of transitional fossils and overwhelming genetic evidence on top of that.

The problem is, even in public school evolution is often sidelined to avoid 'offending' someone. Even worse it is often taught incorrectly by a creationist trying to convert his students (google the name Freshwater).

Edit: Turtle you were very clearly lied to. The fossils are not "out of order." They are precisely in the order you would expect if common descent was valid. If even a single fossil out of place would completely disprove evolution. The "rabbit in the Cambrian."

Actually it seems all of you have been denied a proper education and are utterly ignorant of essentially all of science.

For example, the Big Bang occurred ~14,000,000,000 years ago. Life did not form until 9,000,000,000 years later. You don't know what the Big Bang even is.

It's tragic. They have been lied to. They don't even understand what they are attempting to argue against. The people who do this disgust me.

We were taught the same as you, that we suck, and we evolved from a type of primate. Then we were sent to classes about self-esteem.

Then came the Bible. The Bible is not a science book and it doesn't pretend to be. What the Bible teaches is how we are to relate to God and each other. And if they would just take the time to read and analyze, then there wouldn't be so many problems.

But if you really want to talk about science, let's get rid of the junk science idiocy about global warming, going green, and climate change. Today we marked the 40 year anniversary of going to the moon. We haven't done anything that significant since. Instead we waste money and time on aging space shuttle launches. Even in the early 1950's we had the technology to build nuclear powered spacecraft that could power a ship through the solar system in a matter of weeks.

But the anti-nuclear crowd butted in and took that away from us. Now we have to burn liquids coming out of a nozzle-- 65 year old technology that has no real hope of being improved. NASA and its people have lost their vision. Now instead of designing space ships, they spend time and money supporting homosexuals. This is NASA we're talking about, a super science organization. We've squandered our dreams because no one cares or has vision.

So if you want to talk about the stalling of science and technological advancement, don't blame the Christians.

Your a centrist, first of all. Secondly Creationism is a myth not unlike the Islamo fascist Madras's, many of which are holy schools that teach terrorism. While fundamentalist belief systems in general give no option to other beliefs they infect the real world with their false, totalitarian beliefs to the consternation of a generally rational society. It might help to start calling it a fact and not a theory as nothing yet produced by biased minds comes even close to disproving it so far. You just can't mix politics/ religion and scientific fact- its' like oil and water and, perhaps, gasoline.
