Series that pleasantly surprised you

Where to start, there are so many. But I will try to list as many as I can with my reasons of course as by the rules of this fourm. I agree about the Secret Saturdays being a great show, but I thought it was going to be great from the first preview I saw, so it is not a surprise to me.

Gargoyles - I thought this show was going to be a typical comic book inspired show, but the plot and character development really surprised me. And the gray universe which was almost ever character was something new to me at the time. Back than all of the shows I have seen, the characters were black and white, and the line between good and evil was very easy. Gargoyles was the first one that do that for me.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - This show did grow on me, I admit I thought the first few episodes were kind of dull, but things picked up in the season one finale, and I loved it ever since.

Digimon - I to am surprised over what a great show this was, I thought it was going to be another Pokemon or other toyatic animes of the times, but the great writing for the original series was great. The other series were great as well, though the original Adventures would always hold a special place with me. And the Japanese version is way better than the dub.

Sailor Moon - I never thought shows for girls would be so awesome and fun to watch as Sailor Moon when I first saw it. And other girl animes and forign shows like Winx Club had stuff that I found interesting. I guess action girl cartoons made outstide of North America is a pleasent surprise for me. Much better than the typical girl show made in North America.

Kim Possible - of couse exceptions to what I just said, and Kim Possible is that exception. Just like Gargoyles, another Disney show that surprised me. Granted the action was less than to be desired, and the villains were more goofy than what I am used to, but it is a great comic relief show.

Teen Titans - a DC show that surprised, it had great action, but oppose to other DC shows, it wasn't so serious also.

Jem - this is a show I recentely came accross, and it really surprised me how much action it had, and how deep some of the characters are for an 80's girl show. I never watched in its original run because I dismessed as just a lame girl shows, but it is actully a pretty good show, though the animation is very dated for my taste.

Now I gave Kim Possible a chance from the getgo, but I merely expected it to be fun or okay at the best. While the show may not be groundbreaking and has it's share of cliches, it does manage to go against the sterotypes that previous Disney tween shows had:

1. A dad who is competent and isn't religiously against his daughter dating. Sure he expresses some dislike towards Kim having a boyfriend, he does so within reason (unlike say Oscar Proud).

2. Annoying siblings who are actually likable. They give Kim a hard time, but it's not the sole aspect of the characters.

3. Kim's first onscreen crush being an art student rather than a run of the mill dumb jock (which she has no interest in). And even the ideal boyfriend (Eric) in So The Drama is competent.

4. While not a character type, I found the Christmas special to be one of the best ones this decade. None of the usual "character learns the true meaning of Christmas". And while not planned out, Ron's attempt at a present for Kim is actually heartwarming. Plus as a Kim/Ron fan, a certain mistletoe/parsley scene really added to the enjoyability.

Chowder: Wow. When I first saw this show when it came out in 2007 I hated it. It also bugged me that everyone in my class was going around like "HAHAHA RADDA RADDA SO FUNNY". It seemed very childish. Now, recently, last year, I sat down and watched a more recent one, and I was blown away. The fourth-wall breaks, the clothes, some of those faces, the jokes everything, just blew me away! And now its getting canceled and I wish I could have discovered the genius sooner.
Drawn Together: Never has there been an episode that hasn't made me laugh. And Captain Hero has got to be one of the greatest cartoon characters ever made. Case-closed.

Flapjack: I thought I was really going to hate this show since I really can't stand gross-out shows (I just don't see what's so funny about it) But after I watched an episode I was hooked!! I really find it clever and fun (in a dark, creepy way). It's also my favorite Cartoon Network series today. :flapjack:

Winx Club (Season 2+): I'd already seen season 1 of the Winx Club through 4K!DS dub of it but I never got around to seeing season 2 since I lost interest in that block. So I decided to watch the first and second season in the "RaiEnglish" dub and I loved it! Sure I could see that the show had flaws but it still made for an enjoyable watch. So now I'm back into Winx Club again.

Brandy and Mr. Whiskers. When i first saw the show, i was just grumpy about how it seemed that Disney was trying to make some kind of Nickelodeon-ish cartoon rather than something akin a bit more towards the typical Disney-style. But after a few epiodes, i realized that the show had really clever and entertaining writing. I'll never figure out why it failed so misserably when it came to ratings...

I have to say Lucky Star. At first, I couldn't stand the show because of the art style. But, after I found out there was a dub of it, I seen it. And, yeah, I like it.
