i hope they make another one. i know the movie didnt do well at the box office but it was such an excellent movie. i remember joss said he planned the movie so that there were another 2 or so. i know this is really unlikely but itd be great if bbc got the rights and did it. they need a new sci-fi/humerous type show since the ultimate demise of red dwarf as it was relegated to movie development hell

Just incase you didn't know there was a series the preceeded Serenity called Firefly.

It only ever got 14-15 Episodes in America because Fox decided to show them all out of order to the extreme that the first episode was shown last but one. Yes thats right the episode that sets the whole story up. So because they got bad ratings it was cancelled.

Just thought i'd let you know if anyone didn't.

Both Serenity and Firefly are great.

Yeah I would recommend watching Firefly before you watch Serenity but if you have already watched Serenity then still get Firefly on DVD as it a brillant TV series!
I just hope that Serenity is very successful on DVD so we get at least another 2 films!

A friend gave me a loan of Firefly. I liked it so much I've bought it for myself.
I missed Serenity in the movies so I can't wait for it to come out on DVD.

I hope that there are sequels, but hasn't Joss committed himself to other projects?

Thanks for that :)

Excellent - this increases the chances of him doing more Firefly / Serenity work soon (I know Firefly is dead as a series, but I still use the names interchangably)

Wasn't there also talk of him doing a Spike movie?

yeah he mensioned that on his website. he said he has got lots of ideas such as a spike movie floating in his mind to expand the buffy universe.... i like firefly and serenity more than all the buffy series put together

I have just read rumours that Serenity may have a sequel but it will be a tv movie series and to be shown on the sci-fi channel in the US as the sci-fi channel is part of the NBC Universal family. However Joss Whedon has apparently denied these plans!

Yeah well lets hope that the DVD sales of Serenity are good so that we get another Serenity film but if it isnt I would still be happy with a Serenity TV movie!

universal spent $20 mill on the movie. it raked it only 10 in the US, but thats becuase it was murdered by pitting it against batman returns and war of the worlRAB.
did far better worldwide and i think they got a litt more than their $20mill outlay alltogether. if dvd sales are massive then Universal will deff give joss mroe money for another. should be cheaper as a lot of the sets are there and the cast would prob come back for the same money

The furture for Firefly/Serenity is uncertain. Firstly, as mentioned the DVD sales will probably be the deciding factor as to whether any further project get a green light.

Also, I've read a few interviews with Joss about this and I beleive he doesn't yet know exactly which he would prefer to do another series or another film.

I remember him saying that he would like to do another series but couldn't go through the heart ache of having it pull from under him again like Fox did - he enjoyed the amount of control he had when filming the movie.

In my personal opinion, if anything else does get the green light i think it will be another film or perhaps a straight to DVD/TV film.

Innocentbythestand I think you have got your info wrong as the reason why Serenity didnt do well at the box office wasnt down to it being pitting against Batman Begins and WOTW as both those films were released months before Serenity was released in the US. Sorry if I am being picky!

Also it had a $39mil budget not $20mil...

It almost made its money back from UK and USA sales with it still to be released in certain countries across the world.

DVD sales will push it into the Green and lets hope it his the Light ;)
