Sequels that will never see the light of day

You have to laugh at the chutzpah of films specifically set up to generate sequels like Eragon or Jumper which then mysteriously fail to appear.

The Golden Compass also looks like being a still born film trilogy.

Perhaps if film makers weren't so concerned with establishing franchises & just concentrated on making good movies the sequels would take care of themselves.
 
I agree with your point; however, The Golden Compass is a slightly different case as it was based on the first novel in a trilogy of novels. Although I haven't read the novel, I assume it ended just as inconclusively.
 
That RE: Degeneration isn't a sequel though to the Paula W.S Anderson movies with the RE name.

Seen it [Degeneration]. Boring so it is. Not as bad as the actual live action movies. But I'd still opt to watch paint dry first next time.
 
Given the complete lack of enthusiasm by every single person who saw that movie, I can't see a sequel to The Golden Compass ever being made. If ever there was a "jump on the Lord Of The Rings/Narnia/Harry Potter bandwagon then fail miserably at the first hurdle" this was it.

A dire and terrible film, with a total lack of interest from everybody involved in making it, and everybody who saw it.

No sequel will ever be made of it. Because every prospective producer knows it will just be throwing money down the drain.
 
Not entirely, no. The film cut out the last few chapters of the book (although they were filmed, as it's in the trailer). The book enRAB on a cliffhanger.
 
The ThunderbirRAB film is just a tragedy. I can't believe it was as bad as it was or what posessed them to make it in the way they did. Acting like Alan was the only one who truly mattered and reducing his brothers to bit parts? In the series Scott and Virgil were the most popular by far so the mind just boggles that someone thought it would be a good idea to aim this at the very fickle and not ever remotely loyal kiddie market, instead of going for a general audience who would come back for more.

This is a franchise that could have found real success in live action movies form. What the hell were they thinking?

Therefore, it made a healthy return. The trouble it faces is one of expectation - it fell way short. They were expecting Harry Potter type returns which never materialized. But in terms of profitability it would be well worth a punt, by the looks of things.

The Golden Compass was a shame. The books are great, but too complex in its message to easily show on screen.

Going back a bit, 'Lost in Space' was probably designed for sequals, but was rubbish. As was Godzilla.

Suprised that Independance Day didn't get a sequal.
 
Both rehashes of the Hulk might find a home on this thread. Both were a bit stinky, but I liked 'em.

I apologise for the 80's nostalgia, but a conclusion to the Conan the Barbarian series might have been nice.

I don't think Independance Day would work so well with a sequel. The impact would be totally lost knowing the characters went through all that just to have to do it again. I'm glad it's a standalone.
 
Agreed.

Escape From New York should have been left as an entry to a series that consisted of just one movie. Not one movie and one badly done milking past glories effort of a movie.
 
Neverending Story 2. OK I know there was a neverending story 2 but it was not the book.
The neverending film finished at less than a third of the book I think and the rest of it is well worth filming.
 
There was plans to make Goonies 2, E.T.2 and a remake of neverending story. Hope neither get the go ahead

Apparently goonies 2 script got let out and recieved bad feedback since it totally misses the point of what goonies is. Just hope it never finRAB light or is rewrittwen (for speilbergs sake)

ET is still being debated.
