Sequels that are better than the first movie.

That really was an awful film - one of the top ten worst films ever made! Clooney was so badly miscast. However, I also think that Keaton didn't suit the role - but that's just me.
Christian Bale was great.

Very well put and you're right - T2 still looks good - and if you put the two next to each other, I'd probably say that T2 is the better movie.

However, looking at the two in context makes it harder to call for me.

Terminator is very well done for it's time and money, and whilst it's story isn't as deep as T2's - it is a darker and more shocking picture.

Highlander 2 ?

A always preffered Crocodile Dundee 2 more than the original for some reason.

I'm reaching though....can't think of any sequels better than the original.... Short Circuit 2?

Ah, what am i talking about, Superman 2 rocks, as does Wrath of Khan and Empire Strikes Back...easy...

I don't think you can say that T2 is 'without question' better.

They're both very good films, and in many ways, T2 is effectively a remake of Terminator.

The major differences between the pair are $100+ million and the fact that fashions in T2 have aged a lot better.

MI2 was ok as a James Bond type action pic, but it seemed to me that it had absolutely nothing to do with Mission Impossible. The first film was an excellent take on the TV series and a very good film. The second one missed the point and was average at best. The third one was a lot better than the second but still shouln't have been called Mission Impossible.

I agree.

However, I think M:I-2 is terrible. I've seen it twice. That was enough.

That Limp Bizkit take on Lalo Schifrin's classic theme tune was criminal.

The same goes for the Gladiator 'knock-off' score provided by Hans Zimmer.

In fact, the only American made John Woo film I can tolerate is Face/Off. I've already made it perfectly clear what a horrible actor I think Nicolas Cage is.

I'd agree with Aliens as an example of a great film being surpassed, especially as the first was a horror movie and yet the second changed genre and still worked. Mad Max 2also expanded on the original.

The real challenge though is to find a film with a number higher than 2 in the title that is better than any of the ones that came before!

Seconded, quick cash just regurgitating the original's special effects. :)

Superman II (Donner) - technically a continuation of the first since it was filmed at the same time, but Zod, Ursa, and Non were much better villains than the implausible Hackman Luthor.

Better than those that followed, including the dull Returns.

RIP Christopher Reeves - your legacy will live on. :D
