Seperation between Church and Military? Should all religion be kept seperate...

...from the military? Seems that it would be wrong to discriminate against one religion or another... and as the founders seemd to have envisioned the following:
- A Separation between Church and State.
- A Militia made up of the people rather than a standing Army.

So if in the US, we are to disregard the founders and actually have a standing army at all, why allow religion to get tangled up in it?

How can any truly devout religious person in the military, really be expected to function properly as a soldier, as they may be ordered to do things which run counter to their religion?
 
That's been the problem for years with conscientious objectors. Some fled the country, like during the Vietnam draft, and avoided service altogether, others in the military probably try to be released from service. I don't how difficult it would be to get a discharge.
