I know, you think this is the wrong category but I asked in Home and Garden and didn't receive any answers. I figured that many of us love to garden so I may get my answer here.
My son-in-law gave me 3 starter White Birch Trees last year. I have kept them in pots and now want to put them in the ground. They are just getting their leaves this year, are about 2 to 3 ft tall. How do I plant them. How far away from the fence. How far apart. Are the roots invasive? I worry about them traveling all across the lawn as my backyard is small. Can I keep them potted for another year? My son-in- law planted his but doesn't think that he did it the correct way so suggested that I ask. No websites offered this information either.
