Send text to phone when new email arrives?

I realize this is not Cricket specific but I didn't know where else to put it...

I have Gmail. I have an XV6700 (not that it matters). I'd like to figure out some way of announcing my new emails from Gmail through text. I don't want it to forward the email at all. I'd just like it to say something like, "New email from [email protected]"

I'm not fond of push email because I don't wish to receive every email on my phone. I'd just like a simple text message telling me that I've received email and the added bonus of who it's from.

Does anyone know of a service that does this? Please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Yahoo can for Sprint users. MSN can also, if you use [email protected]

But for G-Mail, no one.

Maybe he could have his Gmail email forwarded to an MSN account then to his phone?

you can set gmail to forward a copy of your mail to [email protected]. this has been discussed before.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I don't want the entire message sent via mms that's why I asked for a text simply stating, "New email from [email protected]"

Thanks TechGuy40 and quintarrius. I have setup gmail to forward everything to MSN and now I get my text alert. Works great!
