send email using SMTP authentication in PHP?

how do we do it ?
i am in a Local Area Network and want to send emails to my friends through code, we have an mail exchange server that only uses smtp through authentication...

i am stuck in finding a way to send email for the last 10 days...

help !!!!!!!
It gives me a blank page....
