Self defense, does it warrant time in jail?

I'm at school helping some ppl that stayed late gather their things, it's in a library/media that links within the local community center so technically a public place. This weird guy walks in, acting funny. It's late but we don't want to wait for him to do/say anything to us so be calmly try to leave quickly as possible but the dude stops us. Looking at his weak reflexes and crooked walking, slightly slurred speech it seemed like he was drunk, another reason to leave. There's 2 guys and 3 girls counting myself, he made a grab at the girl standing closest to him to hit on her or something but her bf got in his way and gently pushed him back. Drunk dude didn't like being pushed and pushed back, trying to get up in the other girls space(she stepped back before he could try anything)then stepped up to me. I hate having my space disrespected and the guy was a creep but when I stepped back he stepped forward. Kept on like that until he reached for my shoulders(WTF, idk what he was intending to do).......so I knee'd him. ;-;

It was hard enough that he lurched back in shock, didn't collapse or nothing but he couldn't get up. I guess it hurt. I didn't know what to do and didn't want him following us so I called the police. They came but when they took him away he started some slurred lie that the guys and me "brutally assaulted him, unprovoked" and they believed him! They said they'd go over the information but there was a chance of temporary jail. :( Thos doesn't seem right, I didn't fatally hurt him, I was defending myself and this happens.

Can they really do this? ;(
 
there not supposed to.a problem always get worse after you call the police.i don't trust them.they are more trouble than there worth.they should go out and do there job.crime has been getting worse for the past 40 years.there like teachers.the more we get the dumber the students get.and the cost keeps going UPPP.there losers.
 
im pretty sure if he was drunk and made a grab at the girl (Sexually possible) you probably will not get ne jail time. it all depends on state self defens laws, in wisconsin there is no self defense law if you fight back you go to jail also. just go to google and search for your states self defense laws.
