Hello there, i just wanted to welocme you to the boarRAB and see how you are feelimg today? take care:)

Good morning everyone.

Just checking in to see how you all are doing. Im pretty sore this morning but its my own fault. My husband works for Honda and yesterday the company rented 6 flags for the employees and their families. All the walking about killed me. My kiRAB kept asking me to ride some rides with them and I finally gave in and did it. I thought.....geez, Im 44 and this just isnt right that I can no longer do these things with my kiRAB. It didnt hurt immediately afterwarRAB but later in the day when we went to the waterpark area, I didnt have a place to sit except on the curb. I just couldnt stand to be on my feet any longer. I started feeling anxious and the pain was getting to me so I had to take a vicoprofen to make it through the rest of the evening. Thank goodness I took them with me. My kiRAB had a blast and I dont regret riding the rides with them at all. Wont be too much longer until they will be grown. I think the walking was what got to me the worst. My lower legs are really sore and also my mid back but I dont think my back is any worse than normal. The worst area in my back is about the level of my bra strap and it radiates around to the front rib area. They are sore to the touch as well as my sternum.
Not sure if the cervical epidural helped. I dont think I am having the spasms at my upper back as bad.
Anyway, I am thinking about getting a tens unit to try. The PM Dr said it may help. After that, not sure which way to go. He said he dont know what else to do if the epidural doesnt help. :(

Hope you all have a great day!

Went to the Chiropractor. He said I have functional Short leg syndrome which has caused me to have scoliosis the full length of my spine. There are about 5 locations where it is compensating for the differences in the leg length and my pelvis is rotated. Put a lift in my shoe with 2 adjustments yesterday. Went back this morning for 2 more adjustments and Electronic muscle stimulation. I had some pretty bad muscle spasms yesterday afternoon. He gave me some samples of Biofreeze. That helped alittle. Going back again tomorrow morning.

Has anyone else tried a Chiropractor?

Thanks chablis! :)

hi sammy, have you actually had an MRI done yet on your c and upper T spine?i am willing to bet, given your symptoms that you DO have some issues up there that are creating all of the strange things you are feeling.it would make sense, really.i too am amazed that your doc got you in to see a NS that quickly,it IS very fast compared to the like one to three month wait that the majority of patients have to wait just for that initial appt.hopefully this NS will be able to help you.but an MRI with contrast,if you have not actually had one yet will most likely show something up there, just given your symptomology.it almost sounRAB as tho you also may have some level of sympathetic involvement too.this would most likely(if true) place your main problem somewhere down at the c 7 T 1 area of your spine(tho that SNS chain actually runs the length of your column, but the main 'junction" area is at where the C meets the T)?i guess you will just have to wait and see.please let us know what you find out.good luck, marcia

Sammy....... just wanted to check in to see how the Dr appt went.
Hope you were able to get some answers!

Sammy, sounRAB encouraging that maybe its a step in the right direction.

Marcia, My muscles in my back always feel hard & tight. Of course its hard for me to tell if its actual trigger points. Because of all of the work we have been doing the past yr, my back muscles are in great shape. We built a large house and did all of the finishing work ourselves. I did almost all of the painting myself of the 4700 sf of living space including all of the caulking, etc. Back in the spring, we started on the lanRABcaping. My husband & I laid about 20 pallets of sod. We are on the side of a mountain so that made it harder. More recently we are working on 2 retaining walls. (one in front & one in back) The lanRABcaping blocks & caps weighed 40-60 lbs each. We are also building a 1500 sf paver patio in the back which was about 13 pallets of pavers. In one weekend we moved 30 tons of dirt to fill in behind the retaining wall and spread 15 tons of gravel. Just wanted to give you an example of how much work I have been putting my back through but I have to say, I think building those muscles helped to support my back better. For the past 2-3 wks I have not done any strenuous work like that and I have felt worse so Sunday I started helping my husband again with our project. I think it also gets my mind off of the pain.
My most recent MRI reaRAB this way: Mild Left paracentral posterior disc herniation at T6-7 which does not cause significant stenosis or narrowing." The MRI I had in 2004 stated it was touching the cord but it is still surrounded by CSF. The only Drs I have been to so far is the Orthopedic in 2004 & the Pain Mgmt Dr 3 wks ago. I am going to try the Chiropractor & massage therapy to see if that helps. Not sure which way to go after that.

Good luck at the Dr, Sammy. You need to let them know how seriously miserable you are and how it is affecting your life. Ask them to order the blood tests. They pretty much have to do it if you request it. I have worked in the medical field for 25 yrs and I know from experience that you sometimes have to press them to be aggressive and that exactly what you need.... aggressiveness. Dont wait for them to make a suggestion; do all the research you can based on your symptoms and ask for diagnostic tests for any conditions that go along with the symptoms you are having. I really think you have AS.
Let us know how your appt goes.

Norene, are you supposed to get the Remecade via IV? I had a friend who had a bad case of Crohns disease and she was treated with Remecade by IV. It made her really sick each time she was treated but was her only option at that point. How are they treating you right now?

Good luck Girls!
Cindy

MKA, Oh I wish somebody would find out something, maybe it would give the rest of us a clue. My gosh I tried going without pain meRAB & muscle relaxer yesturday evening, never took anything in afternoon, determined to go with out it, talk about pain, laid in bed & slept. My chest/ribs,arm/shoulder & upper back& neck were killing me,could not believe the pain come on that bad not taking the meRAB. Sick & tired of it all, I feel like I am loosing my mind because no doctor yet has found what is wrong. Can barely lift my arm today & my ribs are so darn sore.
Has anyone even been given a clue yet as to what this type of problem could be? Has to be something. I am not putting to much faith in these tests the doctors run any more. Honest, if they find out what it is I think I would break down & cry in relief. I am afraid to be given the wrong diagnosis. I am also afraid of moving up to stronger pain meRAB, that is why I tried to go without yesturday(& to try to avoid the constipation). I will be taking meRAB today froget that crap. I am losing alot of money with work & can't wait for someone to find out what is wrong, rehab. doc appointment monday. I always think of you all & hope one of us can find out what the heck is going on, funny all of us & no one really has to much of a clue. Has anyone found anything that really gives them relief? Good luck MKA, Sammy

CHK, Be sure to express to him how sore you are, What kind of manipulation is he doing, is he using his hanRAB or the machine, & What else is he doing along with this? Hope you don't mind me asking, just aliitle concerned for you & curious. Sammy

Chab, it you see this how are you doing? my upper back & chest area have been really acting up, curious to see how you are doing?

Hello Marcia and everyone! I am sorry it took me so long to reply; things have been busy and hectic! I am sorry my first post was a bit confusing! I have a tendency to rarable on and just type whatever comes to mind, and I probably jump here and there trying to explain things! I do have neck issues; but all my doctor said was "boy, your neck is a mess"! I didn't even question the results of the MRI, as I was just so happy there wasn't any brain tumor/cancer, etc! At that time, I took steps to help the weird headache feelings I was having, such as going to a chiopractor, and then the trigger point injections. My neuoroligist did say that the squeezing, burning pain at the base of my skull was indeed from the discs in the neck. So then, I was satisfied with that diagnosis, although I still have some trouble with the funny feelings in the neck and lower skull area...as well as a buzzing sensation in the ears.

Then about 5 months ago, after doing some heavy cleaning, moving furniture, etc., I developed a "stitch" in the right side. Ignored it for a week or so, thought it was a pulled muscle. Then I went to my family doc again, and he sent me to therapy. Went for about 3 weeks with no relief. Then had another MRI of the back, and stomache (thought I might have gall bladder issues,), and those two tests came back ok, according to my family doctor. I do have the actual copies of the film, but not the written report. This "stitch" developed into the full fledge pain that I had first described as to the burning sensation in the chest (below my breast area) and the upper back area. It is still there, but not quite as bad as in the beginning.....just had another shot last week for both my neck and the upper back area. The MRI of the back area did not show anything significient other then some degeneration of the discs in my back and some arthritus. So, now my neurologist is saying that I might have nerve damage, or perhaps a touch of fibermayalgia. Boy, am I confused!

But wait...here's more! The past two weeks I have had terrible cramps in my legs, and such pain in the muscles in my calves. As well as pain in the lower middle back now. My pain is just moving all around the place, and nobody knows nothing!! Your idea, Marcia of seeing a neurosurgeon is an excellent one; I have never thought about that. I have an appointment with a rhemotologist next month, but I am going to look into your suggestion. The neurologist doesn't seem to be doing me much good with those shots.....as ibake&pray said, they don't seem to do much good.

I hope I helped clear some thing up in this post! Sometimes I get so overwhelmed and confused, I forget what doctor I went to, what tests I had done, and when!!

One more short thing; I am also taking Atenolol (bp medication) and just read that can cause muscle aches and pains. I am currently cutting my dosage and am going to wean off it for a bit to see if that helps my legs. Worth a try for a little while.

KKmom, Marcia, and ibake&pray....I really thank you so much for your help and thoughts. It does help to have somebody to "complain" to, and to listen to me! My best to you all, and hope your doing ok.

Judy

Hi, Chablis,
Welcome to the board. I have that exact pain. I had a herniated disc and surgery for it in Feb. and that pain got worse after! I just had an injection Friday. So, I don't have great advice for you, but I have some sympathy! Have you consulted with a pain specialist? If nothing else, maybe they have some more ideas on how to make you more comfortable. If you find something, please let me know!

Hang in there,
- Margaret

Chk, you probably did mention the anky. Spon. issue, my memory right now is awful. BAD day, chest & ribs in major spams & swollen like you would not believe. I am taking someone with me monday perhaps the rehab. doc will be alittle more patient with me if someone is there, don't want him snapping at me like last time because I cant move my arm & neck as fast as he thinks I should or as much. I am afraid, I have to ask for refills on my meRAB, every doctor gives me a hard time. I am taking the bottles in to show him I do not abuse them. God knows I hate the stuff, but with out it I could not make it. I was in tears & shaking by the time I got to work this morning. I honestly am tired of all this. The chest pain is getting to me. I will write down questions as always & hope I can have time to ask them or be able to get them out of my mouth before he interrupts, that is why I just feel it may be better to take some one with me. I have lost faith in doctors. I have been praying some thing will be found or at least done for me. No way can I up my hours at work so I know I am in trouble when I tell them next week. Wish me luck! Sammy

CHK....I never had any injection to relax me when I went to the neurologist for shots in my neck, and I got through it ok. This place I went for the lower back is a new place, and I guess this is their procedure. But, I really don't think I need it next time as I didn't feel any different relaxation wise! And, your right, they rubbed something on my skin and the shot went so fast, I didn't even notice it. The only thing I noticed different from this shot is that I did have a bad headache all night, and was a bit anxious. The next day I also noticed my face was red looking around the cheeks, but today that is gone. I am bad at keeping track of what was in the shots the neurologist was giving me....they might have been cortisone, where this one was a steroid injection. Maybe that is why the mild side effects this time? Yes, I also read that the steroid injections can make you gain weight, which I don't need, but I am not going to worry about that just now.....I am just glad I found a bit of relief from the pain!

Have a good day!

Sammy, as I read your post I could truly understand where you are coming from as I feel the exact same way. :(
I have been trying to read all I can online about our symptoms hoping to come across an answer. I did some research on TOS and noticed that some of the symptoms are similiar to mine but not alot. When I raise my arms above my head, my arms will tingle and feel nurabish. I also remerabered this morning about something that used to happen when I first started having problems but forgot about it. I used to lean over my vanity to put my make-up on and when I tilted my head to the back, my head/face & arms would tingle and it almost felt like I couldnt breathe. I started sitting down to put on my make-up so as not to put myself in that position and forgot about it. I have the same feeling when I go to the salon and they wash my hair. When I lean my head back into the bowl, my left arm would tingle and go nurab. So I now get dry haircuts. Anyone else had this problem?
I forgot to tell you that I tried taking a Xanax last Fri for the anxiety. I was expecting it to just make me feel relaxed but instead it knocked me out. I fell asleep as soon as I got home from work. I even felt alittle "drunk" the next morning. Guess I should have only taken half.

On a more personal note for you girls.... I think alot of my problem is a result of poor posture. I had a breast augmentation about 13 yrs ago and it took a long time to adjust to the extra weight up front. I have a small frame (5'4" 130 lbs) and in the yrs since then (and 2 babies later) I have gained an extra 15 lbs since I had the surgery so they are bigger. I have wondered if I had a reduction/lift to make them smaller again if it would help with my back & neck. Sometimes I wonder if the implants could possibly play a role in my problems. I have been grasping for SOMETHING to explain why I feel this way.

Sammy, I dont know that much about accupuncture. I had it done a couple of wks ago and it didnt help. Not sure if you would need to do it multiple times or what to benefit. I only had it once.

As I sit here now, my heart is starting to pound and I can feel the tension growing in my back. I try to calm myself taking deep breaths, etc but it doesnt seem to make much difference. Yesterday I went into my xray room at work and laid down on the tile floor. When I lay flat on a hard surface, it seems to help alittle but how can you do that and work? SO FRUSTRATING!!

Anyway, guess I better get busy. Have a good day! :)

My goodness, Sammy and Cindy..what the heck is wrong with us ladies? We cdertainly are having our problems, which only us can inderstand! I think I did solve my problem with my pubic pain and burning issue..had an ultrasound today that showed a few fibroid tumors..non canserous, thank god. Doctor said just let them be.....see my gyno for a follow up for meRAB, I am lucky as to the fact I am retired....64 yrs old and do not have to worry about the working thing. However....you girls have a very heavy load to carry; work, family, etc.

Aw, Cindy..bless you..sure I have wanted to cry and I bet Sammy has been at that point also. Cindy..you need to find a good friend that will cry along..if you can;t.....me and sammy will help.for sure. I cried tonight myself.....might have been the two glasses of wine I had..have not done that for many months.

So as to not make this longer.......my best to you both...and Sammy...my prayers for your hubby..being young is good..he will be ok

Cindy...my best to you....I will be thinking about you! Do your best.

Night girls..take care.

chk & all, Doc. appointment with Rehab. as expected another test, although I will tell you I took someone with me & I do believe that got me alittle more time & patience. I definantly encourage everyone to keep close eye on their docs. He has asked me every time I went in if an MRI was done of the thoracic area, & he has the answers right in the file. Also I filled out the same papers every time I go in so put down on same meRAB with exception of what urgent care put me on, well he had to refill pain meRAB, I took them along to show him I do not abuse or over use them (big concern with docs). So he refilled them with no problem, but then he assumed I was only on those meRAB, yet on the form I put still on other meRAB. also, I heard him talking into his recorder listing the meRAB, don't get why the docs. don't go over the charts before coming or while in the room. I did tell him I have had it with the pain, period. Pain is way out of control after the snapping/popping deal. So going for another MRI this week looking for torn mucsles. After this he said he does not know what to do. Funny thing he keeps asking me if I feel anxiety over anything, well duh! with this pain & the way it is taking over my life I would think that would be normal, was even told that be primary doc. Next visit I am asking him what that has to do with this problem. He knows there is alot of inflammation so I just don't get it. I will tell you all I had a good cry after leaving his office, if nothing shows in this next MRI I am back to square one, & guys this pain is unreal. My job is just hanging by a thread, living in Michigan you do not want to loose your job. There is another test they could do but he said he feels it would be to painful for me, I even told him I would go through it just to find out what is wrong in there but he said no, he thought I would not be able to handle it. So back on steroiRAB for a week (4rth time since may) they won't work, but he said even if it gives me a couple days of relief. This is the second doctor who I have noticed did not refer to the chart & that bothers me when it comes to meRAB. I will bring it up next monday when I return. He was frustrated, he neeRAB to consider how frustrated I am over all this. I have heard many things about tests not showing everything & so forth I don't know what to think anymore, but with this pain I am at the end of my rope, honestly, so inflamed it hurts to breathe & my breast feels like it is sitting on a shelf my ribs are so swollen. Has to be something in there. Thanks guys, had to vent alittle. Sammy

Hi Everyone! Just finished reading everyone's posts, and makes me feel bad that nobody has gotten any relief or answers yet. I am at my wits end with my pain and just about ready to go see a surgeon and see what can be done. The steroid shot didn't do anything, and I don't think I am going to even try having another one. I am pretty convinced the second one won't do anything either. I am also going back to my original neurologist on Monday to talk to him and see what he thinks about an operation. I am scared to death of having an operation, but I just am so tired of shots, pills, etc., as nothing has helped me. Was reading on the net about some spine institutes where they do "mimimal invasive surgery" for herniated discs. Small incision, and less pain and trauma. Just wondering if all I read is really true!!

My thoughts are with you all.

Judy

Hi Sammy and Chk and all! Went to the rheumotoligist today and was told the good news is I don't have fibermyalgia, but after reviewing the MRI of my back, he said I do have "very messed up disc's", and arthritus in my back. He said the leg cramps and bad pain and burning I am getting uncer the ribs and my side can also be from the disc's. I kind of suspected he would say that, but was glad to hear I didn't have fibermylagia. So, his advice was to definitely keep my up coming appointment with the back doctor week after next. This bit of information, after about 45 minutes in his office, cost $245.00! I sure hope my insurance pays some of it!! Just thought I would let you all know my experience today!

Baybreeze, thanks for your input on my bladder problem. I also was wondering about the connection between the back problems and the bladder infection. I went to the ER here at home last month with a 2nd flare-up, and at that time all my tests came back clear....and I was having bad pain in my back and side then, which made me wonder if one had to do with the other. I have had people say that stress can also cause bladder infections, and boy, the pain we have with our problems certainly brings lots of stress! At least your gyno said "it could be", while mine said she did't think there was a connection. I will keep my appointment with the uroligist next week just to see what he might say. Let me know how your tests turn out!

Sammi and Chk...I think it is a very good idea to take the Zanex or Valium when you get anxious. I know I wake up in the middle of the night sweating, and heart jumping around, and sometimes dizziness, and I am certain all that is anxiety. Not only from all the pain, but from the stress all of us are having trying to deal with it and the frustration. I even talk to myself and tell myself to take deep breaths and calm down!

MKA...I hope you can find something out soon as to what is going on with you, and maybe some of your findings will help us! It must be so hard for you being an athelete and not being able to persue that just now. But, keep up the good work of seeking an answer, and hopefully some day soon you'll be back to your strong, physical self. Good luck to you.

Take care everyone!
Judy

Hi , I dont have your particular symptoms, but I sometimes wonder about these MRI report results. THey don't always show everything. Plus, I always hear & read that laying down causes the least amount of pressure & compression on your spine whilst standing and sitting are the worst. But when you get an MRI, you are usually laying down. My thinking is, if your laying down and that causes less compression, then the MRI might not be seeing the full picture. It might show some disc bulges or herniations, but the report might say it's not pressing on any nerves or not enough to cause the pain you're having. But I wonder if the MRI was done while standing or sitting, if it would show something different? Perhaps when you stand or sit, the disc heriates more as to cause pain? BUt you would think that the doctors would think of this....
