Seeing the bible says Idolatry is wrong why do Christians use symbols like the fish?

You must define, before you ask or give judgement. No law, no crime, dude...
Fish imagery was used to live by the persecution, a kind of signal, to evade the friking Romans, that were killing you just because you smell different...You would have to be stupid if you did nothing to scape ("when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, flee...." was the admonition of Jesus).

The same case when the idiotic hitler (accursed be him) started to persecute all jews. Some of them escaped, leaving behind everything. Jesus said "they will throw you in prison and kill you; some will even think they are doing God a favour by killing you". So the fish was a SIGNAL. Not an object of worship.

Now, if you do not have the capacity to discern this - which is from this world - would you be able to discern higher things?

The Greek word for fish is "ixthus" or "icthus." The Christian fish symbol that many Christians place on their cars is known as the “ixthus.” Five Greek letters form the word “ixthus,” and those letters inside the fish form an acrostic which is a message that Christians clearly identified with. The first letter represented the word Jesus. The second letter represented the word Christ, the next two, God Son, and the final letter represented the word Savior. This adds up to “Jesus Christ is God’s Son, the Savior.”

During the early days of Christianity, Christians were often put to death for practicing their faith, so they worshiped in secret places. A fish painted on the outside door of a house let other Christians know that they would be safe and welcome inside. The Christian fish symbol is now often used to identify Christians and/or Christian businesses.

I don't remember what site I got this off of, but it couldn't be explained any better...thanks to whoever wrote it

Stop picking on them, if Christ keeps them from annoying me so be it. If they start bugging me again I'm sending Jehovah's Witnesses to your house everyday! They need hope in their lives, and when they lose faith they get annoying.

In the days when Christ first came, it was not legal to follow him. His followers began to draw the fish symbol in the sand as a way to let one another know their allegiance without fear of reprisal from the law.

That's what I was told anyway. And they don't worship the fish, that is what Idolatry is, worshipping and displaying a symbol are 2 different things.

Idolatry is worshiping an object stupid not understanding the symbolism behind it.

Do you even know the story behind the Ichthus (fish symbol?).

Back in the Bible days, Christians were so persecuted because of their beliefs....they were not able to figure out who was a Christian, and who wasn't.

So when they were with someone, they would reach down and draw a line in the dust....the side of the fish. Then, if the person was a believer, they would draw the other side of the fish.

That's how they knew they were believers.

No one worships the fish....we worship JESUS CHRIST! The fish is a symbol of our belief, same as the cross is.
