SED surgery scheduled

Hey all,

I have my selective endoscopic surgery for spinal stenosis scheduled!

If you've had it done or know someone who has, what was recovery like and was it successful?

I've been told it's a 1-2 day recovery but down time is about a month as far as lifting goes and I can go about my normal activities.

Mel, is this the one performed by Dr. Yeung in AZ? If so, I had it about a year and a half ago. Fairly easy recovery... the first two weeks were the worst, mainly just due to stiffness. I tried to go back to work very quickly, and should have just taken at least a week off. Around week two I started feeling different and people noted that I was walking looser. After that, I felt like myself. Now, this surgery did nothing for my pain. I have two grade V annular tears, and he worked on one of them and was able to get it closed about 50%. I've since had IDET on the other one and am scheduled for Transdiscal Biacuplasty in about three weeks. I improved the most after IDET, but SED was a pretty easy surgery. It's actually being done by Dr. Steingart but it is the same surgery Dr. Yeung does. I'm glad to hear it was an easy surgery. At my pre-op appt. they told me the first week is the worst and then I can go back to normal activities, of course limiting my lifting and staying away from twisting and bending. I have surgery on Wednesday and will update then.
 
I had my surgery on the 28th and I feel fantastic! No more leg pain, back pain, it's amazing! I had immediate relief after surgery now am just battling some soreness where they went in with the endoscope. It is NOTHING compared to what I was dealing with on a daily basis though. I only had to use pain meRAB the first day. Overall, completely thrilled with the results of surgery and Dr. Steingart who performed it.

Hi Mel,

Im a newbie to the board and saw your post and it was like a candle of hope. Since you havent posted for quite a while, I am assuming the SED was a success.

I have an annular tear of S1/L5 with back pain and foot nurabness.

Did you have an annular tear?
Are you still pain-free?
