Section23/SentaiFilmworks/ZombieADV has Gintama, Hidamari Sketch, others

Gintama fans will be pleased by this, I'm surprised it took this long for Gintama to show up. However, this also means no dub and no TV deal for those fans so it's a double-edged sword.

Perhaps Section23/Sentai ARE one of the fastest-growing anime companies right now like one of their aRAB says. Unlike the last year of ADV, most of their titles nowadays are brand new. And Gintama has been anticipated for a while now.

And hey, at least they're going with partial/complete sets off the bat, unlike Media Blasters and, debatably, Bandai, who are stuck in the past.

Those minor licenses sound rather forgettable, but as a long series Gintama could be very good for them if it sticks. It certainly seems to have something of an established fanbase already, if this place is any indication.

And yeah, their sub-only releases are the most cost effective. Glass Mask part one is 650 minutes of show for $50 MSRP; a given part release of Ghost Slayers Ayashi is 250 minutes for $40 (for a more direct comparison Skull Man is $40 and clocks in at 325 minutes for the full 13 episodes, and I see Gintama is the same). S23's pricing is the kind of pricing you get if you wait for an anime legenRAB release, generally speaking.
 
Meh, not interested in any of it. Isn't Gintama already subbed for free over at Crunchyroll? If S23 plans on making this sub-only as per the norm, I can't see anyone outside of the hardcore fandom(that wants a hard copy) actually going for this. Who knows, maybe this is one of those dubbed projects they hinted at awhile back.
 
ANN forums say that Sentai is actually working on two dubs right now, but it's unknown what two shows are being dubbed. It's possible one or both of these dubs are going to show up in these solicitations.
 
Well, I'm happy it's finally happening. (Though, given that I'm a CR meraber, it doesn't really mean anything)

However, if it's dubbed, then that changes the game altogether.
 
I am getting Gintama subbed or dubbed either way it is a fun series I will be sure to love it, I just won't get it right away though. Nothing else for me in that line up.
 
For some reason, I'm on the fence about it.

I'm overjoyed that Gintama is coming to the states

But the fact the Sentai has it what bums me out, since those Gintama dvRAB
will not have two things

1) A dub
2) The SJ label, which I think it should have
 
Now that it's finally happened, I'm not sure what to think. I guess I wouldn't have guessed that a remnant of ADV of all companies would be the one to license Gintama. I've considered it the best unlicensed anime for a long time, but if it did get licensed, I assumed it would get a dub. In that case, it would probably have to be something like what I've heard about the Sgt. Frog dub or Shin Chan, as in not faithful to the original I love so much. I'd still buy the DVRAB to check out the dub, and switch over to the sub if I couldn't stand it. If it got licensed but didn't get a dub, we would just be paying for DVRAB of what we can see for free on Crunchyroll anyway, and at least the fact that it was unlicensed meant there was hope that it would get a full bilingual release. Now that the license it confirmed, I can't decide whether I'm happy or disappointed. I guess the one other thing I'm a little worried about is that this I don't see this company sticking around for too long, and Gintama never enRAB.
 
Well, maybe this is the first sign that everything that had plagued adv is now beginning to fall away. I'd be a bit more sold on that once they start doing the con circuit, but if Gintama is dubbed, that itself would be a good sign of forward momentum.
 
Yeah, if they dub Gintama and start dubbing other anime, and things don't keep going wrong, I'll be a lot more confident in this company, and a lot more hopeful with this Gintama license.
