Second viewing goodness (or badness)

I watched The Big Lebowski and the whole time I was like WTH... After it ended I had to admit that I laughed like a maniac. I did like it, but it took me some thinking about it. :lol:
 
Pretty much almost every Coen brothers movie (with the exception of No Country and Oh Brother which I love) I hated on it's first viewing, especially The Big Lebowski. But after watching them again, I really like them. I think The Big Lebowski is hilarious!

The first time I saw Secret Window (half-asleep) I really didn't think it was that great at all, just good, pretty much like all the original reviews of it. The second time I saw it, it was a total revelation. One of my absolute favorites.

The Philadelphia Story I only liked the first time. I don't know what was wrong with me that day! :lol: Another of my absolute favorites.

I really liked Rent the first time I saw it, but it just kind of annoyed me with my second viewing, just didn't seem as sincere as it did the first time.

I loved Don Juan De Marco the first couple times, but a couple months ago, after not seeing it for a couple years, I just was kind of put off by it. I mean it's coming from a nice place, which I think was what I focused on the first couple times, but it was just a bit too sex-obsessed for my taste (even with Johnny.) Not at all explicit, just emphasized.
 
Super Troopers is one of the most quoted movies, I swear! There was a time in FF when everyone had a ST quote in their sigs. I only watched about 40 minutes of the movie ages ago.
 
I :heart: Amanda Bynes.

My selection is Super Troopers. A few people at work were quoting it and I hadn't seen it. I did and to quote from the movie "It's funny, but there's nothing there" but like Airplane, I found something new each time I viewed it afterwards and now I have it on constant quote status.
 
Laughed every minute of Dodgeball the first time... couldn't stand it the second time.

Appreciated Kiss Kiss Bang Bang the first time... but didn't LOVE it until the second viewing... now it's one of my favourite movies! :)

Liked Dawn of the Dead (2004) the first time, but didn't think it was "buyable" until my second viewing...

That's all that I can think of at the moment...
 
I could never think of a film to make me want to respond to this thread (as I've always wanted to) :lol: but as if by magic I randomly thought of one after I had stumbled upon a clip of it in a list of the 50 best high school films. The film I'm talking about is Heathers, you know the one with Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The first time I saw it I distinctly remember how much I hated it. I don't know why or what it was that made me dislike it so much I just know I did. Then when the 20th anniversary edition of it came out something in me wanted to purchase it and give it a second chance. I'm glad I did as it is now one of my all time favourite movies. :nod: Like Clueless (a movie that is so in love with language) it has some brilliant lines of dialogue ('Well, ****** me gently with a chainsaw' and 'Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast?') and I guess I just appreciated it as I got older. In all honesty I believe we wouldn't have had a Mean Girls without this movie - and, to a certain extent, Clueless for it's elaborate use of language. :nod:
 
The Departed- first time i thought it was great, now i think it sucks

same with Kill Bill Vol 2
 
Knocked Up - At first viewing it was hilarious. Nothing but good things. Watching it at home a few months later, I noticed how many flaws the film had. And the movie went from extremly funny to extremly dramatic ... and not the good kind. So, on second viewing, didn't really enjoy the movie.
 
I watched Donnie Darko, but forgot all about it like 2 days after.

Cabin Fever I loved the first time I saw it. It was so absurd that I admired everyone who together to make it. :D Plus, it's all kinds of cool. Hehe.

Fight Club I liked but had to give it a second try for it to finally sink.

One movie I hated the first time, but adored the second time was Return to Me. Now it's one of my all time favorite movies. :sigh:
 
i guess i've been lucky, i've never been near a screamer.

i surprised myself the other day. a new friend sent me a 'game', and it turned out to be one where they show linda blair's way messed up face when legion was in there in the exorcist.

i screamed. i never scream. i cuss really loud if i get freaked out, like the first time i flew in a 14 seater and it hit an air pocket and fell 10 feet. but i don't scream.

of course my face was pretty close to the screen.

i hate those things.
 
She's the Man: The first time I saw it---it was really bad. But now, I can say every line practically. I have a girl crush on Amanda Bynes what can I say...
 
I definitely agree with Filmcritic's list! :)

Groundhog Day - I easily dismissed this when I was younger, but I have come to appreciate it for how intelligent and honest it was, and it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

Twilight Zone: The Movie was also excellent.

At first I thought Donnie Darko was pretty weird and kind of ignored it for what it was, but now I absolutely love it.

I totally hated Cabin Fever in the theater, but now I think it's hilarious :lol:

I thought Fight Club was terrible then. Upon forcing myself to watch it over, I still think it sucks.

Some movies that I liked in the initial viewing, but the more I saw them, I loved them more each time:

I liked A Beautiful Mind the first time I saw it, but watching it again, it really sucked. That's just not something I can watch more than once.
 
Little Miss Sunshine. I liked it a little bit the first time..but like now i can't watch it again...i try to cause quite a few of my friends like it..but i just can't finish that movie again lol





i hate that..or those people who scream at like every single moment in the film...it gets on my nerves so much lol
 
Cry baby has been that kind of movie for me. When it came out I saw it and loved it. Thougt it was great, then when I saw it a couple of years later, I just hated it. It wa so corny and over the top. But saw it again just a couple of months ago and I like it again. I think I finally see what it is John Waters is trying to do. I like the over the top parts and how he makes fun of all the rules of making a teenage love story.
 
I'm like Gotmilk, but the opposite. I use to love watching teen romance movies, like "She's All That" or "Drive Me Crazy", and now when I catch those movies on cable, I just go "What the HELL was I thinking?!"
 
i loved kill bill 2, i think mostly because she kicked butt!!!!!!!!!! and she whacked david carradine, who has gotten on my last nerve for the last 20 odd years.

i loved copycat. sigourney weaver, dermot mulroney, holly hunter, and william mcnamara were perfect in it. and this one has some very scary moments.

does this ever happen to you? i'll be walking thru the theater to watch a movie, and someone in line starts going on about how "scary" the movie is. most of those movies aren't remotely scary. the ring 2? i wanted to smack that woman, but i didn't think the movie was scary.

gerald's game would make a great movie!
 
Just for the love of my boyfriend, I had to give LOTR another chance. After watching it a second time, I didn't completely fall in love with it but it definitely came off my "Movies I wouldn't even buy for a Nickel" list.
