Check for oil or coolant leaks. Check for uneven tire wear which would indicate an alignment problem. Drive it to see how it sounds and handles. After it is warmed up and it is at idle remove the oil filler cap and see if it pushes oil and compression out the filler. Reinstall the cap. If it did not appear to breath heavy and if it drove well (make sure that you also try the 4 wheel drive) Then it will probably be a good vehicle. The Toyota land cruiser has a very good reliability record and is listed by Consumer Reports Buying guide as a good bet as a reliable used vehicle.
