Searching

New to Palm....

I tried to search both DocsToGo and my Contacts database for a name I knew was in there, and neither came up with it, though I found it by going through the individual documents. Is there a special way of searching in Palm OS?

Firstly, which Palm do you have?

As far as i know, all you need to do is use the 'search' button (magnifine glass).

Ah, that's excellent advice, thanks very much. I see that rather than popping up a new list, it just goes to the item it finds the information in.

But when I choose "entire file", it only comes up with a single item - what if I have multiple entries with the same name, say in appointments, to-dos and addresses, and only one has the phone number? Is there any way of finding all of them?

My Palm is a new TX, by the way, and I use a Mac on OS X.

I've looked for "Include in global find" in DocsToGo, but can't see it.

Just a note. I use Find Hack by Florent Pillet. It was $14.95 I believe, but gives you total control over searches. You can set up what programs to search, which to skip, set upper and lower case defaults, and create different groups for special searches. I have used it for years, and it is well worth the cost to me. Just another option to look at: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/fpillet or look it up on Google. It was 1/04 when I bought my copy.

Re: drbaer & FindHack: +1 !!
One of the 5 best ever apps and will certainly solve your problem, Mala. Just remember to check your "custom app lists" when adding a NEW program, as FindHack adds new installs by default. Other than that it's a godsend, and best of all . . . since it's been a full fledged program (I used it when it was a "hack!") - it's been robust enough to work with all Palm Models for the last couple of years without Florent rewriting it.
