SE W810i vs. Samsung D900 vs. RAZR V3i

Tough choices. The V3i is a great phone with TONS of ways you can tweak and modify it, but it's been out for a while now, in the international market at least you can see some signs of it's age like the limit on the microSD card and no A2DP.

The W810i is pretty close to being a perfect phone, good camera w/ LED flash, quadband, EDGE and one of the better music players in the phone market today. If memory capacity is a concern, you can get up to 4GB on a Memory Stick Pro Duo. Also has an FM Radio which comes in handy if you have good local stations. About the only thing missing is A2DP and perhaps 3G if you are in a country that offers that service.

I'd say the D900 is the most "cutting edge" of your choices. It's the thinnest (thus far) slider of the market, the best resolution among the 3 phones and the highest megapixel camera of the bunch with LED Flash assist.

The Verdict? I guess it depends on your taste and what kind of features you are interested in. The V3i is one of the best flip phones thus far, but the KRZR is already out and the RAZR V3XX and the V3MAXX will this the market soon. Also look out for the RIZR (Razr Slider) pushing the V3i to the "middle of the road".

The W810 is solid, but the Cybershot K800i/K790a/i has already taken it's place at the top of the camera/music phone food chain. The only thing missing with Cybershot phones is quadband but the 3.2 MP, autofocus and the real Xenon flash it's a must have if you take a lot of pictures, especially night pics and can esentially replace a portable low-end camera.

The D900 is probably the best combination in terms of overall features and thin form factor. The slider and the screen resolution isn't bad either. It has the ubiquitous microSD card slot, and the A2DP should put your choice over the top if you like wireless bluetooth stereo.
 
i've had the v3i and currently using the w810.
The v3i had very solid reception, but to me, its just another razr with a modded look.

The w810 on the otherhand I find to be a great phone. Quadband, 2mp camera with AF, walkman + radio..its a great all around device. To add to that, theres tons of themes out there. I like SE's high degree of customization.

I havent used a D900, but I've held one and it feels very fragile (due to its thin body)
If you're one of those people who is VERY careful with their phones, give the D900 a shot. QVGA display with a 3mp camera + AF, quadband.. cant go wrong
 
Thanks!!! I think I will go with the w810i as well since I've already had 2 Motos and I'm getting kind of sick of their software. The D900 from what I've read is still too new to be a reliable communication device, seems like a lot of people have things go wrong with their D900.

One thing though, my ex had a W600i and the thing picked up ALL kinds of background noise that if she was walking around on campus I wouldn't be able to hear what she said over the other people walking around her, is the w810i improved at all on these aspects?
 
I've owned all 3. The W810 is prob the best out of the 3 but I liked the D900 the most. It was very sleek and the camera was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like about it was it had weak RF performance and poor battery life.
 
Yeah, even if the V3i has the etched faceplate, and the illuminated motorola logo and a choice of colors (Silver Quartz, Maroon, Violet and Blue) the only RAZR that seems to be differentiated from all the other RAZRs out there is the Dolce & Gabanna one, which is esentially the same phone in terms of functionality, but with Gold/Silver case and a premium price.

I've had the V3i for over 6 months now and I can honestly say it's a solid phone with good reception and significant functionality (such as improved camera, memory slot and MP3 capability) over the V3. For those who like the RAZR look and have been dying to get one, I do recommend getting the V3i over the V3.

I haven't actually handled the D900, so I can't vouch for it's durability, but the potential fragileness is the price for haveing the thinnest slider in the market, and based on its features, I'd say it's Samusng's flagship, or at least one of their flagship products.

I do have to agree, the W810 is one of the best phones in the North American market, and I do believe Cingular will be adding it to its lineup soon. I would probably be getting the w810 myself it fit werent for the K790a that is already out (and will probably be my next phone).
 
I currently own a w800i (european version of w810) and a d900. The d900 is amazing in terms of form factor and overall sexiness.

But the w800 blows it away when it comes to usability. The user interface is a lot better, and the battery life is a *huge difference*. The battery life on the d900 is terrible. Plain terrible. Especially if you use the music player and camera a fair amount, it barely lasts one day on a full charge. The w800 can go two days with moderate to heavy use of features, and much longer if you're primarily using it as a phone.

The SE user interface is my favorite (though I haven't really tried the new Nokia Symbian phones yet), and the music player, slideshow, and file management systems are much better than the Samsung equivalents, IMHO. I also prefer the SE calendar system. And the w810 will come with good headphones and an adapter so you can use whatever 'phones you want with it (or plug in into a home or car stereo using a standard 3.5mm cable). You can get a similar adapter for the d900, but it's extra time & money to order one. I use my w800 with Etymotic or UE 'phones and the quality is on par with my iPod. The included d900 stereo phones are okay, but nowhere near the same quality if you listen to a lot of music. And then there's the battery issue, again.

If you're considering a D900 and willing to spend that much, look into the new SE K790 and K800 phones. 3.2 mp cameras with a real xenon flash (not the LED "Flash light" on the w800/810 that honestly doesn't do much good), bigger screen with better resolution, same UI and music player features. Only issue is if you need the quadband. If so, you'll have to stick with the 810 or wait for the "US versions" of the new k790/800 to come out.

I personally don't like the Moto RAZR phones much. iTUnes on the v3i isn't bad, but I find it to be a bulky phone and the 1.3 mp camera lacks. The KRZR has caught my eye, though.

Im sure you'll be more than happy with the w810 due to its wide range of great features.

The D900 of course would be better if its battery life wasnt so terrible. But I guess u sacrifice battery life for having an extra slim phone..

Samsung quadband never really was that great in my eyes...
 
Not yet at least, but they will be.

I bought the phone from a local retailer unbranded/unlocked, and I ordered my Cingular service online over the weekend with a free phone.
 
Yeah, buy unbranded through the HoFo classifieds or marketplace, or from ebay. Get that free phone with your contract and turn around and sell it on the classifieds or ebay to make some money back. Definitley the way to go. Branded phones are often "crippled" to make certain features unavailable to you -- usually features that would let you do things on your own for free as opposed to doing them over the network to put more $$ in the carrier's pockets.
