Se 120r complete engine?

Well.... my 103 is making 120 tq at 3,000. Only 114hp peak though.

It looks on paper like those heads are way to big to support a cam swap in hopes of getting more low to midrange tq. I'm sure that monster cam it comes with is better suited to those heads. Sounds like a very interesting package. I'm already trying to talk my Dad into one. LOL

This guy claims he's got a friend that's having nothing but issues with his SG here is a post http://www.cyclespot.com/forums/showpost.php?p=359784&postcount=10

I'm glad that I never have the $$ when something just gets released. It gives me the time to see what kind of bugs are in this thing and for the developers to work them out. And don't forget the "R" stands for "RACE"

Oh ya GRH said they developed this motor for a new drag class .......Baggers It will be cool seeing baggers turn 8-9s in the quater

This SE motor reminds me of the S&S V145 'Tribute', which can make around 180 HP/TQ. THAT would make a mean bagger motor, if only it would fit! But it also suffers from big ports and valves and a wild cam. It's probably possible to rework the heads by reducing ports and valves, but the extra labour adds costs.

Of course I remember, Dick. No offense taken.

I never said it was an 120R, I said it was one of the new HD 120's. It may or may not (more than likely, NOT) be the same. THe posts I've read both here and on other forums are certainly entertaining, if nothing else.

For the record, I have not had one of the HD Christmas Catalogs in at least 5 yrs, so I do not know what the "official claims" are. I do know from the scanned dyno graph on the other site that 108 ~ 109 ft/lbs of torque @ 3k RPM, on a hot motor as big as a 120 is mediocre at best. 140+ HP is more than respectable, if you wanna drag race the bike.

I've built dozens of 103 & 107" motors that have more torque than that, in the RPM range that most people ride, 99% or the time. Heck, my HQ98" motor made 111 ft/lbs @ 2250, and held it all the way til 5k+, and that was on a 10:1 static CR build ~ a 98" build.

One other thing on that marketing hype dyno sheet... it is showing over 140 HP. If I understand what folks are saying about these motors, that's what ya get when you use the 12:1 pistons, this new "Hurricane" head (probably bigger ports & valves than the already too big configs of their predecessors) & .700 lift cam. ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME? That's not gonna be a motor you can cruise or tour on. As fuel quality continues to decrease and more crazy additives are introduced, a 12:1 motor is gonna be hard pressed to survive ~ just think about how often folks are complaining about heat, pinging, & hard starting on the basic 96 or even 103" late model Twin Cam....

It'll be a novelty, no doubt. As far as a good motor for the avg Bagger Guy.... Not likely. Time will tell. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit it...

In answer to your question about baffle(s)... If you are seriously considering build a motor like this, you may was well use the Boarzilla with the standard baffle. That motor is obviously designed to breathe.

One other thing for those "wow'd" by the "dyno sheet". REMEMBER, a dyno sheet is really far more valuable as a marketing tool (working quite well, in this case) than as a representation of how a motor will or will not run & ride. Just because a sheet shows BIG numbers, it does not necessarily mean that the motor will run or "ride" well. It's a snapshot of a WIDE OPEN (WFO) throttle run. It is no indication of rideability whatsoever.

Phil
Please check post #22 of this thread. It gives a link to info and dyno on the motor. The dyno looks nice to me, but didn't sell me. Many factors did.

Mainly I wanted a big motor I could afford and if something went wrong, the culprits were near by. I have that here.. My dealer will stand behind this. Why? Because I spend lots and have friends. There are at least 5 dealers within easy driving distance aching for businesses. Enough said.

I have a lot more to say but I have to type in binary code with my phone. It takes for ever.

If I beat 1 Ninja 600 from bar A to bar B and blow it up pulling into the parking lot, all real bikers should applaud my efforts.

Continued, I heard from 2 people with the kit motor that the motor is very rideable.Very streetable. Like a 103. Harley posts the same dyno chat for the 120 kit as they do for the crate motor. What I tried to imply earlier to you Phil was, if your buddy can make the kit work,i have faith HD can make create motor work now that you solved the problems.

Here's an update to the link you posted.http://www.cyclespot.com/forums/showpost.php?p=360116&postcount=26

The guy's "friend" didn't have the crate motor. He had the complete assembled kit.

I am curious. What is the status of the motor taken out? The numbers would match the bike. Also would you have to carry an MSO to prove that the 120r engine is yours? I like, I want, I am going for it!!!
