SD / MMC cards

I have a new Tungsten T5. I have already filled up the internal 256 MB memory, and an external 512 MB card with music, pictures, videos, etc. I am looking for some 1 GB SD cards. What brand/specs are compatiple with the Tungsten T5?

I use Sandisk 1GB card also. And, you can purchase a card reader for a minimum price so that you can just move things around with such ease. It is called:

SANDISK MobileMate 5-in-1 Secure Digital Mobile Memory Card Reader

Here is one on J&R Computers web site:
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4015118

This is a neat little gaget, it attachs to the USB port of your computer, you insert your card and another drive is created enabling you to move things in and out of the card quite nicely.

I use a Lexar Jumpdrive trio for a card reader. It takes up no more space than a normal USB thumbdrive, but it is actually a card reader for SD/MMC and Memory Stick. Great versatility for about $30 US.

Lexar Jumpdrive ??? That is a cool device, you can get a MP3 player connected to it. :) :D

BUT, can a 2gb jumpdrive (or 1gb), work on a Tungsten T3 ? The T3 does not have a FAT32 driver and therefore, 2gb and above SD cards will struggle.

The problem is NOT with the 2gb cards, the problem is the Palm will not take their FAT32 driver, that is included on the T5, LifeDrive and post it for T3 users. It would take them no time to do it.

Thanks,

Jon

First of all, the Jumpdrive trio is simply a card reader. It has no internal memory itself. You can put any size SD/MMC/Memory Stick into it and use it like any other thumb drive type device.

Second, from what I have learned reading on these forums, and others, you are correct with your guess that the T3 will not work with a 2G SD card. As far as I know the upper limitation on the T3 is 1.54G. And there is a company out there that sells cards that size. I can't for the life of me remember who that manufacturer was, but it is out there.

And many people have requested a FAT32 driver for the T3, but I don't see palm doing it, since that platform is, sadly, not produced any more.

What about the hack that some people are using? I was interested in if it really worked. There is a fat32 replacement prc driver people are using. The modified t5 driver is used on a t3. I've downloaded but am too chicken to try it yet. The temptation to use 4- 8 gig micro cards with adapters is getting me thinking.

This of course is all unsupported by palm. You can switch your prc back again to the original if it doesn't work out. Anyone here do this Fat16- Fat32 replacement?

BTW I like my T3 over the t5 because it fits better in my pocket, plus I didn't have to get a new keyboard when upgrade form tungsten t. Yeah, I know always 3 years behind. But then who else would you sell too? LOL

There is a driver out there that someone made if you google and take your own risk-- of course back up and keep original driver. Not sure you'd want to try this without backing up your sd card either.
