SD Card File Structure

I have a new Droid Incredible (I moved up from a BlackBerry Curve) and am wondering how to structure folders and files on my 16 GB SD card. Can I use any names I want for folders, subfolders, and files, from the top right on down? Or does the Android OS impose some restrictions? Are there standard conventions? At the moment the card is completely empty, but I have lots of files on my PC that I want to carry around on my Droid.

unless something is completely different on droid inc. than on other android phones, you can name folders whatever you like. a nd you can create subfolders.
i'm not to sure what you mean though about "from the top right on down".

The file structure is quite flexible, and you could almost name the files or directories similar to name them in windows.

In fact, it's same as linux, because android is based on embeded linux(In my opinion).

I thought maybe the top folder of the whole structure might have to have a specific name, although from the other comments posted here, it seems that there is no such restriction.

There are no restrictions, but if you want to add folders for alarms, ringtones, and notifications then the folders you put the audio files in need to be called alarms, ringtones, and notifications respectively or Android won't find them.

You can structure it pretty much however you want. Download a file manager from the market so you can navigate around, pretty much like a pc. Personally I like Linda File Manager, but others like IO.

As for transferring files, have you heard of DropBox? It allows you to keep a folder on multiple PCs that automatically syncs and is accessible through the cloud. They have an Android app as well. Pretty freaking awesome if you ask me!

Standard free account is 2gb but if you click my referral link here then we BOTH get an extra 250mb.

Another alternative (but only uni-directional, not bi-directional) is Awesome Drop, also available in the market. This allows you to use a web browser to drop whatever file you want directly to your phone through the 3G, no cables required. Pretty sweet, but DropBox is better in my opinion.

Check em all out.

EDIT - here are some links for you.
