SCUBA: What is the best technique for clearing a flooded mask?

The method taught on every basic SCUBA course (hold the skirt against your forehead, breathe out through your nose, tilt your head back to blow out the last dregs) is the simplest (i.e. easiest) way of doing it. By definition, that would make it the best method.

There are of course alternatives. I heard of one student (not one of mine!) who actually inhaled and swallowed the water out of his mask *shudder*. I don't recommend that one.

I'm new to the sport, besides the school taught method, what is the best technique for clearing a flooded mask? Or is the school taught method the best?
