Just posted on the off-chance that someone might have spotted 'Scrooge' somewhere in the schedules this year?

The Alistair Sim (1951) original black & white, not the colourised version that Channel 5 is showing again.

Thanks

Cheers Dancc,

I'm not sure it's accurate though. It conflicts with the Radio Times which describes it as the colourised version.

There's also a quote from Barry Norman on a separate page, which says in reference to this C5 showing ,that "this is sadly being screened in the colourised version".

I'm also fairly sure C5 have tried to catch me out in the past with this version.

Absolutely - The problem with colouring films made in B&W is that when it was made the technical guys arranged the lighting and direction for B&W. When they are coloured they can loose all the atmosphere which I believe happened in this case.

The B&W version is a masterpiece and really creepy. Fortunately I have a VHS copy of the B&W film and will watch that instead.

I got home to find everyone watching a weird, unnatural-looking film on the TV. It didn't "click" that it was colorized so I assumed it was just a very bad print. Should have known the original was in black-and-white.

I never seen this version of A Christmas Carol, and I would like to add that Alistair Sim was a fine actor as Scrooge - a convincing performance.
