Script being developed for Roger Rabbit sequel

If a sequel features any crossovers it will no doubt be characters the majority of the mainstream audience is familiar with. That said, just about everyone on Tommypezmaster's list doesn't stand a chance.
 
Is anyone certain that in today's age companies like Warner Bros. or Viacom would sign over the rights to have their characters featured in the film?

IIRC, the only reason they were in the original was because Spielberg personally went to everyone in Hollywood begging, and because at the time Spielberg was the man who could do no wrong, all the studios had no problem with handing him over the rights
 
I don't want this movie to be made. And if it is made, I want it to fail. I want it to crash and burn. I want it to be such a spectacular failure that people can use it as the ultimate example of how NOT to make a sequel. If this is made and it plays out the way Zemeckis wants it to, I want the movie to be such a huge failure that it forever destroys the man's credibility.

I'm never this dramatic or negative about anything, but what Zemeckis wants to do is just wrong on so many different levels. I hate mo-cap with a burning passion and will never, ever, ever sit through a movie using this technique.

Just...no.

At this point Zemeckis has completely lost me. I was one of the people who actually liked Polar Express and Beowulf, whatever their technical shortcomings.

But first the Yellow Submarine remake, and now this... please, Rob, stop. Playing around with a new area of animation with less-than-perfect results is one thing, mucking up past animated classics is another.
 
Even with the technology today, wouldn't it still be really expensive to do a Roger Rabbit sequel? Zemeckis et. al would still have to go to other studios and get permission to use the studio's characters. If this is supposed to take place in the present, Nick would demand one hell of a payment for Spongebob.

And if the "real" people are toons themselves (mo cap), then that just defeats the purpose of the Roger Rabbit universe, doesn't it? Unless that's part of the plot itself.

Whatever the sequel is about, it better blow people out of the water.
 
You never sat through the Lord of the Rings movies, the Pirates of the Carribean movies, The Dark Knight, Benjamin Button, Watchmen, etc. and won't sit through Avatar or most other big special effects movies in the coming years?

Mo-cap has its place; generally for nonhuman/mutated/otherworldly characters in live-action films. We already know there's classic 2D animation in this movie, so at least its not pure mo-cap, and if Zemmickis isn't totally mad there should be live actors as well.

Basically I'm staying optimistic until I start hearing actual plot/casting/promotional details.
 
I can't really see this working... at all. ever.. but I'll play.

I shiver at the Idea of them using modern cartoons...If the companies even allowed it, Some of these are not even worth the shows that they are on. I would hate to see the Roger rabbit franchise give even one shred of a nod to anything created today. Maybe 90's and 80's toons, but not today's.

So I've heard they've got the original writers. That might be the only good thing here, because today's writers are Hacks. (rant:
Random does not equal funny, gore does not equal scary...)

I heard there was a book sequel, has anyone read that? Would that be worth doing?
 
Let's not be too hasty...after all, Mr. Z is just considering the utilisation of performance capture---it's not for sure or anything. I am just guessing he wants to use PC because the robotic arms and puppeteers used to make the human/toon interaction in the first movie would be too expensive today. Just my thoughts.
 
Zemckis is making a big, and I mean BIG chance here. If he fails on doing on what Roger fans were asking for, he's officalled screwed. And I can tell he already is since he's now going to use mo-cap for the humans in this.

I for one highly agree Warner, in my opioion its about as bad as getting Dan to voice Yogi.
 
Just once I wish a reporter would talk back to the person they're interviewing whenever they say something obviously stupid. Someone needs to say to Zemeckis's face, "The wonder of Roger Rabbit was that real people were interacting with cartoons without any computers involved, and not only is it a mistake to use computers to shortcut that, it's a BIG mistake to cut the people out ENTIRELY! Also, the mo-capped Christmas Carol movie looks awful and creepy and so did The Polar Express and so will this."

The only publication I ever saw call interviewees out on BS was EGM. And now there's no EGM.
 
Has anyone ever considered that mo-cap may only be used when human characters are in Toontown? Or that the whole mo-cap thing may not get past the planning stage?
