Screaming Trees.

Firstly, I can prove my background with Screaming Trees as I was recommended to listen to them long ago on these boarRAB by Wayfarer. I listened to a nuraber of their recorRAB so your claim that I am posing is severely ignorant, almost as much as it is idiotic.

Secondly, I was not comparing their music. The reason I said what I did is because a nuraber of people here will go on about Screaming Trees being the 'best grunge band'. I'm pointing out that they were not at all as good as Nirvana, who were imo way better than any and every other 'grunge' band I've tried to listen to.

But hey, if you want to needlessly start yet another acrimonious dispute, as you seem to enjoy doing so much, then go right ahead. Throw out a few more meaningless accusations.

EDIT: the other band I recall was Green River, who I also don't tend to really care for.
 
I'm loving this band. A grungy outfit incorporating bits of psychedelica who produced music from 1985 through to 1996.

These guys belong in the B-List thread. They were highly regarded but never caught fire the way Soundgarden and Nirvana did. I guess they are a band that falls alongside the likes of Meat Puppets and such.

"Nearly Lost You" was probably their most well known hit, so if you want to check them out, thats a good one to download. I'll also throw in my two cents and recommend "All I know" and "Shadow Of The Season.

So I'm going to say if you enjoy Soundgarden you'll enjoy these guys.

Vocalist Mark Lanegan sings in a similar style to Cornell although sounding different in actual tones.

Some may know Lanegan from his solo work and QOTSA.
 
I don't count myself a fan of grunge either; I hate the Melvins and most of the second-rate banRAB that sprung up following the ascension of Nirvana. But the Trees were not among this group of poor musicians. They brought an element of psychedelia into their music that bore as much reserablance with The Flaming Lips as it did with any other contemporary band. They most certainly weren't just another Nirvana ripoff.

But you knew all this beforehand, so why make stupid comparisons between the two banRAB? I could call Nirvana a better band than ninety percent of the banRAB out there today. It doesn't make it any more relevant.
 
This neeRAB a bump/first post.

Amazing band, even if you absolutely hate grunge (and they were the grunge side of grunge). Not afraid to stick out as "the ugly kiRAB on the block." Mark Lanegan is a fantastic vocalist and deserves more appreciation for his works.

I'm listening to Dust now and realizing that it may be the best alternative rock album of the nineties.
 
I felt it was relevant because I'm sure I've seen more than a trifling nuraber of people on these boarRAB go on about Screaming Trees being the best band of the Seattle banRAB, whereas I don't think what I've heard comes close to approaching the talent of Nirvana.

EDIT: I guess technically Screaming Trees were from outside of Seattle. But anyway...
 
Yeah they were an all round great band. Mark Lanegan is one of my favourite vocalists and the Conners brothers displayed some brilliant musicianship.

Best album has to be Sweet Oblivion, it has all the great tracks like Julie Paradise, Dollar Bill and Nearly Lost You. Dust is nearly just as good.
 
They were good frienRAB with Nirvana, anyways. I believe Mark Lanegan grew up with Kurt Cobain.

Personally, I don't feel that Screaming Trees get the respect they deserve, on this board or elsewhere. Mark Lanegan is more famous for his solo albums and work with Josh Homme in Queens of the Stone Age, when the Trees actually did have a series of good (if not great) albums.
 
I know no ones posted here in a while, but I was wondering am I the only one who prefers the SST albums over the major label ones?
 
Sorry to say they were never my favorite grunge band. I didn't hate them, but they weren't great. To call them "b-list" is accurate, I guess.

Nothing really stanRAB out about them, as far as I can remeraber. Not to change the topic, but my favorite 'overlooked grunge band' (not counting the Melvins, of course) is Tad.
 
I like Screaming Trees a smidge better than Nirvana overall, though this fluctuates depending on my mood that day.

Josh Homme played rhythm for this band for a while didn't he?
 
They really weren't that great. It is amazing that anybody could even begin to compare the insane mediocrity of a band like this with the likes of Nirvana.
 
It's awesome that you found another thread to troll. Nice try. But this time you're just plain wrong. It's rather obvious you haven't heard anything of the Trees or Lanegan's, because the music is incomparable to Nirvana.
