I cannot figure this out, if anyone could please help me. I dont have box of salt. !!! lol
plz help ill answer any of your questions. thanks
This lab needs some calculations. Follow the instructions below.
1. Find a box of salt and read the mass in grams off the box.
2. To find the moles of the salt, you need the molar mass of sodium (Na) and the molar mass of chlorine (Cl) from the Periodic Table of Elements. The molar mass is the number with the decimal points. Label the numbers g/mol.
Add the molar mass of sodium (Na) and the molar mass of chlorine (Cl) together to get the molar mass of the salt (NaCl). Divide the mass in grams of the salt by the molar mass of the salt to get the number of moles of salt. [grams divided by g/mol = moles]
3. To find the number of grams of sodium in your box of salt, multiply the number of moles of salt by the molar mass of sodium. This will give you grams Na+.
To find the number of grams of chloride in your box of salt, multiply the number of moles of salt by the molar mass of chlorine. This will give you grams Cl-.
4. To find the percent of sodium in your box of salt, divide the grams of sodium by themass of the salt and multiply by 100. This will give you % Na+.
To find the percent of chloride in your box of salt, divide the grams of chloride by the mass of the salt and multiply by 100. This will give you % Cl-.
