Well, i had a project on Thailand food before, and i ended up making Thai Ice tea. It doesnt taste like iced tea at all and everyone loved it! I would give you the recipe, but i lost it 
I know it was cheap though. Look for recipes online, if you find a thai iced tea that includes some sort of milk in a can (that you would normally use in cooking), then you probably found the right one. Theres not many ingredients to it, and after you're done, it should taste sweet, and good to most

Daal. It's very cheap and easy assuming you already have some spices. If you don't have spices.... you might be buying tons of them to make this dish. Other than the spices it is just lentils and possibly some vegetables. Go lookup recipes for dal/dahl/daal. There isn't a proper spelling in english because it's a dish from India.
