Schindler's List

I read the book before I went to the cinema as I didn't think I'd make it through the film without knowing what to expect. It's the most powerful film I have ever seen. Like others on here have experienced, the cinema was totally silent for the credit (everyone stayed) and no-one talked on the way out or in the car park. It was a good half hour or so before my husband and I started talking about it on the way home.

The girl in the red coat is an important part of the book and a part that really stood out when reading it, so I was glad to see her highlighted in the film too.
 
My mum and step-dad saw in a cinema full of Jewish people. She said it was heartbreaking. There were people openly crying all through the film. She can't talk about the experince with out welling up.

As for the film truly breathtaking but I always watch it with a lump in my throat and tears streaming down my face.
 
I'm Jewish and cried the first time i saw this. Must have seen it about 20 times and it still gets me every time. One of the most breath-taking films i've seen.
 
Strange, I watched my Schindler's List DVD only a few nights ago....I found myself pausing and slowly replaying some of the scenes.....even watching it at 1 frame at a time, the level of detail is truly amazing - e.g. watching the female building engineer get shot in super slow-mo shows just how realistic the imagery was....this film is definitely Spielbergs "Sgt. Pepper"....

For me, being a fairly new parent now makes some of the scenes even more heart-wrenching...
 
I watched this film when it first came out and it has to be the most moving, memorable and upsetting film I have ever watched.

It disturbed and upset me so much that I can't bring myself to watch it again.

The scene where the kiRAB are hiding in the toilets.....makes me sad just thinking about it.

Great film though.
 
It is definitely if the not the most powerful film ever made IMO. I think what makes it worse is its mixture of subtlety and horror and heartbreak.
 
The First time Schindlers list was on tv I taped it, because I just wasnt ready to watch it.
Some months later I did watch it and agree with all your comments, its a film that cried out to be made.

For me the final scene at schindlers grave was one of the most moving moments in a movie that was itself a deeply moving experience.
 
Like other correspondents on here I have only seen it once though the power and humanity of it has stayed with me.
You do not constantly need to rewatch a movie to appreciate it.
 
A wonderful film on many levels - I went to see it at the cinema opening night and I went alone as I felt it was not something to do with a group of frienRAB on a night out. I will never forget how deadly quiet the cinema was as the film ended - people openly weeping - it was such a shock to so many people I felt.
Remarkable performances especially from Ralph Fiennes - that year the Oscar went to Tommy Lee Jones for The Fugitive - a total sham if you ask me.
Have never been able to watch the whole film since as it upsets me too much - can only watch in snatches.
When the one armed man gets killed - that just broke my heart.
