SCH-R450 (Messager) - Tethering/Lock Code - Connect to computer

ok found something interesting on this thread http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsung-i700-faq/41005-samsung-i700-cdma-modem-working-linux.html
supposedly this samsung phone conforms to the Universal Serial Bus Communication Device Class Abstract Control Model (USB CDC ACM) specification. so if this applies to the messager then you really dont need a driver since most comps will already have it, you just need to point the comp in the right direction. if anyone is equiped to try this out let me know if it works. ive still yet to get a data cable but ill post my findings after i do.

I found this fantastic post on the MetroPCS thread (for SCH-R450) about tethering your phone with your pc (it is quoted below). For those of you who do not know what "tethering" is, it is essentially where you let your pc connect to the internet through your phone.

I attempted this but apparently Cricket doesn't use the same "587846" lock code as MetroPCS.

One of the posts on that same thread suggested that if you call Samsung they will give you the code. Don't waste your time with this as I tried it to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea what the lock code is?

Also, I am a programmer and am trying to write a program to successfully connect the phone to the computer (like Samsung failed to do). As soon as I succeed I will post it on here (yes, for free). I have found several good leaRAB on accessing the file system of the phone, but my best chance right now is through this lock code.

So please help if you can, I always pay it forward.

Thanks.

First of all, Gexx, you rock. Thanks man.

doctehroc, with or without the drivers, my computer can detect that a device is plugged into it through the usb, but it has no way of knowing how to access my phone as a memory storage device. Even when I set it up that way manually, it still won't work. The Samsung PC Studio is supposed to connect to your phone, but it doesn't work on the SCH-R450 (Messager).

I called Samsung and asked if there was any other way, or any other drivers i could get that would help, and they said no.

As I stated before, as soon as I can access the file system on the phone, i'll post it here.

actually the pc studio doesnt connect as a modem it just installs the necessary drivers, you need to set your phone into DUN mode and set up the device manually using the driver from samsung pc studio or from what ive read you can also use the linux acm.o driver that is included in most distros

also ive heard you can acces the filesystem with qpst the code to connect this phone with qpst is ... around here somewhere, ive got it written somewhere but cant find it right this second, im pretty sure its in the forum somewhere

jetset is a go for tethering. better speeRAB than most of the others i have seen. wen i get to work in the a.m. i can send you or post the instructions.

I don't get what you mean by a ten digit code I thought the code was only 6 digits?

also does anyone know how to enable tethering and the second nam through seem editing or what not the cricket branded razr2?

ok been tryin to connect to cricket im using linux xubuntu 8.10 and ive got the phone working as a modem using the acm driver and it connects but when it logs in it kicks me out its probably because i havent set the proxy settings..im not sure exactly how to do that on this os, there is no setting in kppp..if anyone knows plz let me know

FYI:
This menu option is also available on the Hue and the MyShot. NOT available on the Spex or the u340....I don't have any other Samsungs laying around the shop LOL.

I did not tether any phones, just checked to see if the DUN option was in the menu. :)

For Cricket Samsung Messager (SCH-R450) users-

How are you able to get the phone to show up in your OS as anything other than a USB Mass Storage device? I see several people with MetroPCS having it work, but I haven't really seen anyone say it's worked with Cricket's version. I've plugged this phone in to a PC running Linux and checked dmesg/logs/lsusb and it simply does not appear as any device at all (without a Micro SD card). I've gone through the debug settings (Menu, 9, #, 3333333) and set a few things to see if I could change this (DUN on or off, as well as 4 - Port Map settings (Set DATA to USB instead of NULL, as well as messed with other options here) and cannot get it to work.

It's my assumption that there is no way to get the Cricket version of this phone to do anything over USB except show up as a mass storage device.

My phone says it's
S/W version R450.BG10
H/W version R450.07
