Scary phone call...

During school today I received around 8 calls from a number that was something like 1-804-...something something. Not only was my phone vibrating so frequently (due to the calls) that I couldn't feel my leg, it was disrupting class, or at least for me. So I finally answered the damn phone call so I could completely and utterly verbally destroy whoever was on the other line. Here's what happened when I answered:

"This is an automated phone message from MSCI WorldCom. An inmate named..."
[pause]
A recording of the actual inmate, who has a thick...ebonics accent: "This is Rod."
"...from Suffolk County Prison has requested that they be able to make phone calls to this number. Calls will continue three times per day for seven days unless the following questions are answered. To accept calls from..."
"This is Rod."
"...please press 1. To refuse calls from..."
"This is Rod."
"...please press 2."

Naturally I pressed 2, and then later on chose to refuse ALL calls from MSCI WorldCom or whatever it was called. How the fuck would an inmate get my number? I'm hoping it was just a mistake in what number he dialed. Still, it scared the shit out of me.

To be honest it could have been a random attempt. If you're bored all day why not make up numbers to call and then try them? Who knows, some asshole might actually talk to you? I think you ended it, but he's still out there searching for someone to talk to.

What's scary is how much prisons charge to accept the call. When one of my cousins would call from jail, it came to about $35 per call on the phone bill.

I really want to start another account with the username, Rod, but no can do.

Damn, Mentor... I have a friend in prison who used to call me collect (when I still used a land line). His calls were always about $10 each for just about 10 minutes (that's all he was allowed at the phone).

I find it odd that this guy got so many chances. Usually they only have one time per day to make calls and there's always a line waiting. Then they're usually also only allowed about 10 minutes per call.

Anyway, it sounds like he just dialed wrong. I'm sure he'll figure it out when he gets in touch with whomever he was trying to reach. I mean somebody gave him the number, so he'll talk to them again. It could be your number was the same number of whom he was trying to reach before you got it. He'll still figure it out either way.

Oh, you're allowed to be seen using your cell phone in school?? My daughter's school doesn't allow their cell phones to be seen or heard at all. It's automatic detention if it's even seen falling from her purse.

did you just get your phone, and out of curiosity where did you get it?

when i first got my phone i got like 6 calls a day from people i don't know because they gave me the same number of some high school chick. finally everyone figured out she changed her number. i got my phone from a deal with AAA.

Then she has it lucky. According to a new rule set by Principal ChokesonDick on Friday, if any cell phones are seen or heard throughout to day, they are to be confiscated, sent to the office, and held for the remainder of the school year. :thumbsdn:

That's how my school was during my senior year. Except no one followed the rules, because the teachers didn't enforce it.

I don't know why he called your number so many times. Once I got a call from this girl named "Jennifer" and she was like "HI JORDAN DON'T YOU REMEMBER ME! LETS HANG OUT!" I don't know anyone named Jennifer, and as hard as I try, I don't remember her.

Yesrod

It was me bitch, why did you answer?!? That was my one phone call for this entire month damnit!

If the number never changes, and if it's your cell phone that gets the call then you can always manually block the number from you menu on your cellphone, I forget how you do it though.

I agree with Avidity, I got about 8 calls from a guy named Chris, and when I finally answered it he realized he had the wrong number.

And lord knows how many times I've hit a wrong number.
