Scariest Film of all time

My 2p worth...

The Audition : just for the scene near the end when she's going "kirri kirri kirri kirri"... really spooked me the first time I saw it.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) : I saw it on video in the 80's before it got banned. One of my favourite films but it still freaks me out!

The Grudge (japanese) : but only for that strange noise of the ghost - makes my skin crawl.

The Devil Rides Out : really old film but I remember watching it as a kid and being terrified when the angel of death appeared (it'll probably look a bit pants now!).

Dawn Of The Dead (remake) : has it's moments.

28 Days Later : good on DVD if you can watch the alternative endings.

Possibly the Hellraiser series but I haven't seen them for a while and no doubt they will look pretty dated now (still got them on video somewhere). I'm a big fan of Clive Barker and his books are a lot more dark, twisted, and scary.

I like the Evil Dead trilogy but I'd always considered them to be more comedies than horror films.

Cheers frazzles!

I saw that film years and years ago. I will have to watch it again now to see the scary jammy dodger thing! :D

Thanks again! :)

My first ever scary movie experience was watching The Elephant Man when I was about 8 or 9 years old, and I was so scared I spend most of the film with my eyes covered, so I wouldn't actually be able to tell anyone what it is about. The film has left me scarred and I still haven't had the courage to try and watch it again.

When I was 14 I watched The bodysnatchers and in a roomfull of about 50 people I was the only one who screamed with shock - quite embarrising.

Was that The Reanimater Im not sure but I remember tanks myself in some Zombie film or could it be Revenge Of The Living Dead?

How about the dead trilogy by george romero. i absolutley love these films but when towarRAB the end of the films there is someone torn apart by zombies i cant watch because i find it very disturbing.

im not talking about the recet remake of dawn of the dead as that was b*****ks

as for recent scary movies they just dont do it for me. vintage are the best

For true chills (not just plastic "stays with you for the moment" chills), I find the following list all genuinely disturbing;

1) Manhunter - This is the orginal "Silence of the Lambs" - try this around 12:45 - 2:00am in your room alone with no one else in the house...works a treat!!

2) Salem's Lot - The orginal version, much maligned by the critics and King himself but if a dead kid scratching at your window doesn`t raise the hackles not much will.

3) The Wickerman - I`m biased on this one - I`ve got a holiday home where they filmed this cult gem - Apparently scared an American to death!!?? on it`s orginal release.

4) Clown House - For comedy value - this is weeeeeaaaak maaannnn.

Things that go bump....(like this thread)...in the night...

All scary films terrify me. Anything even vaguely spooky freaks me out to the point of not being able sleep unless all the lights are on.

When I saw The Shining I had to stay up until 04:00 watching the cricket highlights to calm me down (being in a second floor bedroom, with no light in the landing, and no one else in the house didn't help).

Worst time ever was watching a documentary on Ed Gein in a cottage in the middle of the countryside with no one else near me for miles. I was so scared I couldn't even get up to grab the remote control to change the channel, so I was stuck watching something that scared me more and more with each passing second. I managed to hook my school bag with my foot, and read the dullest book imaginable "Palmerstone & Foreign Policy in the 1850s".

I saw this film a few week back and i found it quite creepy at how a dead woman could just come out of the mirror. She came out to exact her revenge on those who had in the first place been involved in her death.
but apart from that i like to watch a lot of horror films and the scariest one i ever saw had to be THE EYE, i made the mistake of watching this late at night when i was sleepy and it made me almost jump out of my skin at times.
Though i watch a lot, even though they are maybe a bit lame now, i am a big fan of the friday the 13ths. But at the moment i would say asian horror is the best to watch.

respect dude - The Friday 13th line of films is amazing Horror (comedy) at it`s best - "Jason takes Manhatten" is a particular favourite of mine - more fun than a barrel o`monkeys!!
