scared to paint??

i'm really into art now and i draw a lot and i want to experiment with paints but i don't know where to start.
i've bought them, a few small canvases and various brushes but i'm scared to start cos i don't want to stuff it up.

it's really silly, but i haven't painted since i was about five years old. i remember the teacher yelling at me because i didn't paint the correct picture how she wanted it and i haven't picked up a brush since.

any thoughts on how i can overcome this little irrational fear of mine??

honestly....painting is whatever you make it out to be. classes can critique you on your skill...they can tell you your composition sucks...but theres a reason that painting has come to be so multi-faceted. my best painting i've done all year long was done in the (semi) dark using only my hands. dont worry so much about the outcome...focus on the journey...create whatever you feel the need to create. dont be afraid of paint (or wasting $$)...as nike says---just DO it.
