My sub doctor moved away and left me with a referral to another sub doctor. Well I waited a little while to call because I didn't realize psychiatrists book up months in advance, and now I don't have an appt. til feb 5th. and I'm going to run out of suboxone in a couple days. I have experienced what it feels like 3 days in without it and it is just as bad as heroin withdrawal if not WORSE because the insomnia and RLS is just as bad and the depression and anxiety is worse for some reason. I literally was bedridden I was so depressed, classically depressed, no sleep, no food, etc. I'm terrified. I have called many doctors and everyone's booked up for a month or two. I'm a full time student so I can't just take weeks off school. I'm scared of relapse as well. What should I do? My psychologist says if worse comes to worse to go to the ER and they will taper me off something, is this true?

Hey Dig

Geeze, Honey, this is a tough spot for sure. Try not to panic, okay?

First, is there anyway to get in touch with your old doctor? He can prescribe for you as he is familiar with you and has seen you. Just enough to tide you over. Try that.

If that does not work, then do try the ER, although I do not think that they can necessarily prescribe Sub there unless a doctor certified in it is on duty. I guess you can just go there and ask. It is certainly worth a try.

Get working on these things first thing tomorrow. Let us know how it goes, okay? I reaslly think the best bet is to work hard to get ahold of your old doctor. Rooting for you.

Hey, I got in touch with my old doctor and she's going to call me in a prescription just this month. I got so lucky, I just took my last dose today!!! I've been reading other threaRAB about getting off this stuff though and I'm really terrified... it sounRAB like it's gonna be miserable, and I've been on it over a year and a half now.

Hi Dig,

I have been on Suboxone for 10 months now and have recently tapered down a little. Here's my situation...

I started out slowly increasing until I was at 18mg of Suboxone. I had an appt last week and asked if I could try to decrease my dosage, as I have had some stomach issues since I started (constipation). So, seven days ago, I tapered down to 16mg - waited for the withdrawal to kick in - nothing. No withdrawal, no anxiety, nothing. Two days ago, I went down to 14mg - no withdrawal, nothing.

From my understanding, if you taper slowly, getting down to 2mg is a piece of cake - It's those last 2mg that people have trouble with. As long as you taper slowly, you should be just fine. When you eventually decrease to 2mg, it is very important to take your time and do it as slowly as possible. I've read that Suboxone patients use a razor blade and shave off a little more every week or so...until you are down to a crurab.

Essentially, if you aren't in a hurry, you'll be ok :)

Hope this helps ease your anxiety regarding withdrawal.

Enjoy your day,
emsmom

The only thing I can suggest is to start stepping down as much as possible b/4 you run out. For instance I just had a similar circumstance and after ususally taking 4 mgs of suboxone a day, I went down to 2mgs then 1 etc. I took the meRAB at night to aid with sleep and just did the best I could during the day. To me the sleep was more important that the jitters RLS during the day. Although they say not to, I found a glass of wine of sleeping pill helped at night as well.

Its amazing how small you can chop up those pills! And how little your brain neeRAB to stay out of full blown w/d. Maybe by the time you get your appointment in Feb. you'll have stepped down enough to quitalltogether with the new docs help... that would be ideal wouldn't it?
